To our frwnd James Lofton hernodle, M.D. lYl rs. Alma Albright Kernodle, widow of the late Dr. James Lofton Kernodle, and their daughter, Mrs. Atrice Kernodle Manson, now deceased, are benefactresses of Elon College. Before Mrs. Manson ' s death, she and her mother bequeathed to Elon Clollege the Manson building located in Burlington, currently valued at $70,000. This bequest was to establish the Dr. James Lofton Kernodle Foundation for the improvement of pre-medical instruction in Elon Clollege and to pro ide scholarships for worthy and needy young men pre- paring for the practice of medicine. Dr. Kernodle was graduated from the Unixersity of North Carolina and was awarded his degree in medical science by the University of Maryland. He was born and reared in North C arolina. and prac- ticed medicine in Alamance County for twenty years. Dr. Kernodle died February 18, 1933. Mrs. Manson died . pril 14, 19.S0. With Mrs. Kernodle ' s consent, and because- of the interest of these good people in jur college as expressed in such generous terms, we the class of 19.S1 take threat plea.sure in dedicating our annual, thi ' I ' m Psr Ci.i, to the memory (jf Dr. Kernodle and Mrs. Manson and to the htjnor of the w lie and mother.
