The tour short, busy years spent at Elon have never seemed to bear heavily upon us, but yet they have their significance. September 3, 1924, found a large group of boys and girls of all sizes, weights and tem- peraments struggling with the intricacies of registration. These were the members of the Freshman Class. We were as green as the Emerald Isle, and as innocent of college pranks as new-born babes. A few months, however, brought us into the fold, and East met West and North met South on F.lon ' s campus in the spirit of the Class of ' 2S. During the da ' s and weeks that followed, parties were given in our honor — much to our discomfort. The sophomores ruled vith an iron hand. November i, we met in Whitley Auditorium and organized our class. E. W. McCauley was elected president; Robert Byrd, vice-president; Ruth Lyerly, secretary, and Mabel Michael, treasurer. For our sponsor we chore Professor J. W. Barney. Be the voice, and not the echo, was selected as our motto. Time fled and examinations came. Iheii could we go home for the Christmas holidays. January 6, 1925, we came back on the hill. Fortunately, only a few of our number failed in the first round. We struggled hard to live up to our motto, and truly we were rewarded ; for the Class of ' 28 was one of the record classes in the history of the college. There were more varsity men from our class than from any class preceding ours. Frances Sterrett gave a certificate recital in expression, and Mabel .Mexander gave a certificate recital in piano. Through the trials at the hands of the sophomores we remained undaunted in spirit to the end of the year, when we were freed from freshman traits.
