SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September of 1943 three of the senior class entered Elmwood School as first graders. They were Dale Kunz, Phyllis Ebeler, and Arlene Wilhelm. The teacher for that year was Mrs. Elsie Kunz Linder. The next year Clark Marshall and Carol Ann Blessing joined the class with Mrs. Linder as their teacher. In the third grade the class had as their teacher Mrs. Esther Meritt Renner. Mrs. Renner taught for half of the fourth year but because of illness, Mrs. Dorothy Miller finished the year. Mrs. Miller taught the class in the fifth grade also. Rae Jean Bornemeier and Darlene Krecklow joined the class that year. The next year Mrs. Shirley Mercer Voller was the instructor. For the seventh and eighth grades Mrs. Josephine Colon was the teacher. During the seventh grade Donna Doebele and Alice Plunkett joined the class and in the eighth grade Martha Ann Stolz came to Elmwood. The highlight of that year was the eighth grade graduation ceremonies. Late in August of 1951 eleven members of the class plus Eldro Hansen, entered the doors of E. H. S. as green freshmen. The main event of the year was freshman initiation. The teachers for that year were Miss Carlson,-Mr.'Johnston, Mr. Colon, Mrs. Winter, and Mr. Turner. During their sophomore year Merwinna Kampman and Duane Preston joined the class. The highlights of that year were the publishing of the Sophomore Scribbles and selecting of class rings. Mr. Johnston, Mrs. Mulnix, Mrs. Godbey, and Mrs. Akert were teachers for the seniors' sophomore year. The main highlights of the Junior year were the arrival of class rings. Junior Class play, junior edition of the Spyglass, County Government, and the Junior-Senior Banquet. Teachers for that year included Mrs. Godbey, Mrs. Johnston, Mr. Mickelson, and Mr. Johnston. In their senior year the class lost one member, Sharon Cook, making the class enrollment twelve. The senior year has been a fun-packed year from initiating the freshmen to Commencement. It can truly be said that the senior year is the best of all. The instructors for the year have been Mr. Ernst, Mr. God- bey, Miss Hagemeister, , and Mr. Mickelson.
