The Dad's of all the football players were invited to attend school, eat lunch with their sons and see the game. The game was played with Alvo but Elmwood came out on the short end of the score 49 to 0. Keith Drake suffered severe face injury and was unable to finish the season. Elmwood is going to make Dad's Day an annual occasion. FOOTBALL BANQUET At the conclusion of the football season a football banquet was held in the school cafeteria with all the school children and their parents invited. A delicious meal was cooked by Mrs. Stoval and Mrs. Elliot and served by the eighth grade girls. After dinner the honorary co-captains were named and these crowned the 1950 Football queen Janice Faye Miller. Coach Johnston gave a summary of the seasons events and presented the letters. Second Row: Jerry Paben, John Thomas, Dudley Doebele, Larry Lan- nin (Student Manager), 0. A. Colon (Superintendent), Johnny Johnston (Coach), Keith Bornemeier, Orville Bogen- reif, Norman Irons. Eight lettermen returned for the 1950 Football season. They were: Chuck Backemeyer, Delton Nannen, Ralph Brockhoff, Clayton Linder, Norman Irons, John Thomas, Murell McCoy and Dudley Doebele. Four new comers were added to the list, Keith Drake, Jerry Paben, Keith Bornemeier and Orville Dean Bogenreif. The season ended with 3 wins 4 losses. Tne eight who lettered last year lettered this year also the 4 new comers. Larry Lannin was the Student Manager for the Football team. HIGHLIGHT OF THE SEASON The highlight of the 1950-51 Football season was the game played at Nehawka. Chuck Backemeyer suffered a shoulder injury and was un- able to play. This made Elmwood fight harder to win the game for him. The team was sparked by the brilliant playing of John Thomas. Dudley Doebele, Delton Nannen, Keith Drake, and Murell McCoy. John Thomas sparkled in pass catching, he also blocked a pass for a ?Udley did a fine job of passing. Delton Nannen, haii t6 u’ an Murell McCoy each did a marvelous job of running the paix Luck, however, was against us and Murell McCoy broke his leg in the second quarter. With two of the first six out the going was tough but the agressive Elmwood team won out 22 to 0. —17—

Second Row: Merle Backemeyer, Keith Bornemeier, Larry Lannin, Delton i Nannen, Clayton Linder. Nineteen boys turned out for the 1950-51 basketball season. This season was the first time Elmwood had won the Cass County Tournament. Ten boys lettered for the 49-50 season and .'even returned for the 50- 51 season. Elmwood won its first Cass County Tournament during the 50-51 season. The first night Greenwood was downed 71-36. The highest score of the tourney. The second night Elmwood was idle. The third night Elmwood downed a tough Louisville squad 61-42. The last night of the tournament Elmwood barely won over Murdock in an overtime. Dudley DoebeZe sank a free throw to tie the score 33 to 33. Murdock made three points r.ir.king the score 36 to 33. Chuck Backemeyer trade a field goal and free toss hieing the game once more. In the remaining second Dudley stole the ball and clinched the tournament score 38 Elmwood 36 Murdock. 19—
