The E.C.H.S. football team started with a bang and ended with a spurt. Although we had only a record of 2 wins and 6 losses, the team was vastly im- proved and won their first Conference game in several years . Tom Mclntyre was named all Conference guard and Steve Harding was named second team halfback. The graduating lettermen are: George Whitney, Karl Taylor, Tom Mclntyre, Larry Cox, Larry Boyer, Bob Shissler, Richard Eccles. Returning lettermen are: Lester Endres, Vernon Broadfield, Jack Jordon, Jim Fruit, Richard Coon, Doug Coulter, Gerald Eccles, and Malcolm Bollinger. Varsity BACK ROW: Dan McBeth, Blair Haines, Larry Cox, Jerry Blankenship, Bob Shissler, Doug Coulter. FRONT ROW: Richard Coon, Sonny Patterson, Sam Jones, George Whitney, Phil Kratzer, Steve Harding. The 1955-56 Trojan basketball team was the preseason favorite for the Blackhawk Conference title. Due to about twenty seconds we lost the championship to a strong Galva team that went on to win twenty one in a row and were never stopped till they got to the game against Galesburg in the Galesburg Regional. But we came out second. This year the Blackhawk was very strong with three teams winning twenty games or more. Elmwood ended up with a splendid record of 20 wins and 7 losses . 1930 was the last time Elmwood won 20 games . Elmwood lost 4 games in tournament play and 3 in regular scheduled play. In the Elmwood Tourney, we won fourth place and in the Princeville Tourney we won second place. For once Elmwood wasn't small, but had four starters at six two and one at five eleven. This year George Whitney was named unanimously as All Conference Center and Sam jones was named on the second team. Sam, who in his Junior year was named All Conference Center, was handicapped by illness throughout the year. This year we lose eight seniors and returning are two lettermen who were starters, Richard Coon and Sonny Patterson. Also returning are Doug Coultor and jerry Blankenship.
