FASHION SHOW The F H A IS an act1ve orgamzatlon cons1st1ng of g1r1s from the mnth through the twelfth grades The purpose of th1s orgamzatxon IS to promote a grow1ng ap prec1at1on of homemalung encourage democracy promote 1nter natlonal goodw1ll and to further 1nterest 1n Home Econom1cs To earn money for th1s organ1zat1on several luncheons and an evemng dance were held Several members are sent to the State Conference 1n June at Penn State Un1vers1ty Those from the Sen1or Chapter were Grace Horne Delores Verosko and Janet Hamzlton a member of the State Chorus From the Jumor Chapter Betty Forte Mane Chopp and MarJor1e Kefover a member of the State Chorus Jun1or F I-I A offlcers were Betty Forte Pres1dent Ruth Magera V1ce Pres1dent PatI1C13 Kvartek Secretary Dorothy Yodsk1 Reporter and Betty Martos Treasurer Sen1or F I-I A offrcers were Joyce Mltchell Pres1dent Joyce Gmther V1cePres1dent Eleanor Meszaros Secretary Loretta Dz1ak Reporter and Grace Horne Treasurer Sports Night Marlene Petro A colorful event whxch has been presented every Aprll for the past seven years 15 SPORTS NIGHT Once agam an enjoy able evenlng has been planned for Aprxl 24th The Sports Nlght Program IS mamly for the par ents lt glV8S them an opportun 1ty to see theu' chlldren and others ln dances exerclses etc The purpose of xt IS to Lmprove the mmds bodies habxts and manners of the students Throughout the program they work together and operate m co ordmatlon The followlng schedule has been made by Mr Sylvester who xs III charge of Sports Nxght Headmg the program boys and glrls from grades 7 to 12 wxll do Stunts of Tumblmg the act of manlpulatmg the body feats of skrll Boys from grades 7 to 10 w1ll follow by domg a Wand Dnll At this trme all hghts w1ll be put out and bnght hghts of red whlte and blue w1l1 appear on the floor earned by the 7th and 8th grade glrls domg a Flash Llght Dnll To add color to the program the 11th grade grrls w1ll entertaln by domg the Rocka Conga and the MQXICHH Hat Rock Sandra Stehle On May 14th glrls from grades 7 8 9 and 10 wxll proudly model the garments they have constructed 1n home economlcs class After workmg very hard 1n class they w1ll fmally be able to show off the1r new sprmg fashlons The seventh and part of the eighth grade glrls w1ll model gathered sktrts Some of the elghth grade gu'ls w1ll model aprons of whlch some are rever sable Freshman g1rls had a ht tle more dlffxcult problem for they used a commerclal pattern to make the1r skxrts and blous es Glrls of the sophomore class have chosen elther a dress dust er slacks or a Jumper an blouse for thexr project IS year Marg1e Kefover wlll be the ac compamst for the style show Everyone always enJoys the fashlon show All the glrls do a fme Job w1th the capable and pat1ent assxstance of Mrs Teale FHA NEWS 'lhxs year has been a busy one for the Jun1or FHA 'lhrough domg mstead of Just talkmg F H A ers have accomp llshed much Our Wednesday meetmgs have consisted of pro grams on baby slttmg datlng allowances and many other xn terestxng toplcs Now we are m the process of readlng and ex plammg the book MIRACLE OF THE HILLS written by Dr Marv Iartln Sloop It tells of Cross nore a school whlch helps the mountam people ln North Caro l1na We made a Chrlstmas do natlon of used clothlng to Cross rore Smce Crossnore IS an F H A state pro1ect we feel we should know more about 1t In our chapter the followmg are workmg for theu' Jun1o1 Homemakers Degree Betty Forte Marte Copp Sharon Fxsher Kathleen Lukas and Johnetta Nuccetelll Those earmng thelr degrees w1ll have them presented at the Washing ton and Greene County Annual FHA Sprmg Meetmg whlch IS to be held at Chartlers Houston Jomt Jun1or Sen1or I-hgh School on the twenty flfth of th1s month At th1s meetlng the Fashlon Show w1ll be held wlth some Ellsworth FHA members part1c1 patlng They will model fashions they made m school Mrs Teale IS coordmator for the Fashion Show th1s year Whxle we re on the subject of meetings I mlght mention that the State FHA Meeting wxll be here sooner than you thlnk Thls vear nts going to be at Pennsylvanla State Unlverslty on June 8 9 and 10th On one of the-se three days the State Fashion Show wxll be presented COOK OF THE YEAR CONTEST Sandra Stehle In November of 1958 s1x glrls from our school entered the Cook of the Year Contest spon sored by Kroger Westmghouse From these s1x entrles there were two wmners Theresa Gal msky submltted her reclpe for egg plant p3ltl8S and Sharon Fxsher submltted her reclpe for peach dessert A specxal assem bly was held for the wmners and Sharon and Theresa were each awarded four R C A Vxctor long playmg albums Mrs Teale was presented Wllh a Westmghouse transnster radxo and the school a Westmghouse roaster . . , . . . . . . . . - 1 1 .1 ' . . 1 . - ' ' ' 1 1 , . . 9 ' . . . 1 - 1 . 1, - 11 .
