The record was six wins and two losses. 1 1 NORTT BELLE VERNON 1 'lf A green excited team went against N. Belle Vernon with 1 the result -Ellsworth was beaten l9-12. It was a costly loss Y in that Steckley was injured. Harry Peterson came off the 1 sick bed to play. + Forte ani Peterson scored the toichdowns. Y , 1 JEFFERSON + 1 With the center of the line weaked with the loss of Y Steckley, Ellsworth was defeated 1? - O. The score is very Y misleading though as Jefferson was outplayed. But the lack Y of punch at the right time stopped Ellsworth. i 1 With the return of Stechly, Ladisic, Peterson, and Y Lipscomb to the lineup, Point Marion, East Beth, Belle Vernon,' Centerville, Bentleyville, and.tre Alumni were beaten by Y Tfl 1 ,-1,9-1-.-'LE :lf ...J ,---Ll.. .L ut 9 Ik Among these victories, the victories over Belle Vernon and' 1 Bentlcyxille were very important. There isn't another 1 quarterback who can block nearly half as well as Willie. He 1 uses his head in calling plays, quickly diagnosing the defen- 1 sive position of the opponents. 2? The failure to get two yards in four downs was really a 1 blow to Willie on September l8, lq42. That day Ellsworth 1 went down to defeat 1? to O. Although he didn't score a stopped several times only one times he set up the touchdowns Point Marion, and Belle Vernon 1 1 toucldown this year, Willie WHS? or two yards short. Several 1 in the Jefferson, East Beth, 1 games by catcling passes inside1 the ten-yard line. In my estimation Willie should have made 1 the All-Conference first team quarterback without any trouble,1 if Willie went out for basketball a cdiple years, but soon 1 decided it wasn't the game for him. He told me last December 1 HI Can't play basketball, I'm 100 raigh, i'm liable to kiii Y somebody.N :If Ulf When Willie enters the armed forces next week his loss 1 will be felt deeply. He has been playing football for three 1 years. Beginning in his Freshman year he didn't see much 1 service. During the next two years he was a starter when he 1 wasn't injured. Ik Pl' Willie possesses that fighting spirit that few boys in 1 the Ellsworth High Sctool have--that spirit to keep fighting 1 until the final gun has gone off.. Y 1 Players lost through graduation 1 if Ted Stechly has blazed himself a trail of glory since 1 starting during his sophomore year. During that year, in the 1 first game of the season, Teddy was injured but played all but? about two munutes. He covered himself with glory that day, and from that day on he has distinguished himself as a star., 4' Because of bad luck, Stechly was out of action for about four Y games. i 1 In his junior year Stechly played one of his best years. Y Winning his first bert? on the all-conference team in Footballt 1 The senior year found Sted ly injured in the first game. T His absence was felt in the second game against Jefferson.
