HISTORY OF THB CLASS OF '53 We, the senior class of 1953 of Ellis High School, started life in BHS as green lite tle freshmen in September, 19h9 We were the largest class ln school with 71 pupils Members of the class were Philicla Anderson, Elaine Armbruster, James Augustine, Barbara Baugher, Larry Cookson, Billie Edwards, Elgerine Engel, Duane Ferguson, Lloyd Jacobs, Lois Johnson, Helen Loflin, Gary Louellin, Mary Lou McAtee, Shirley Mixer, Ro berta Moore, Janet Nicholson, Janet Rader, Jeanie Rathbun, Eddie Thomas, Alfred Von Feldt, Adelaide Waldschmidt, Stanley Walters, Doris Zerfas, Gilbert Augustine, Jack Arnswald, Nancy Beggs, Rudolph Erbert, James Fuller, Henry Honas, Jean Horner, Doris Kahn, Herman Keller, Vsrlyn Kroeger, Lawrence Lang, Verle Orton, Andy Pfeifer, Don Row land, Alberta Sauer, Donald Sohoech, Vivian Schuster, Duane Scott, Donald Staab, Morris Talbert, Eugene Waldschmidt, Margaret Wasinger, Hilary Weigel, Lawrence Wolf, David Zerfas, Robert Augustine, Frank Bieker, Robert Bieker, Ronald Deutscher, Delbert Die trich, Robert Engel, Joe Erbert, Robert Fuerch, Darrell Gabel, Ralph Giebler, Jimmy Hamburg, John Honas, Jack Horner, Duane Houston, Donald Kahn, Kenneth Lang, Lucas Romey, James Weber, B111 Weaver, Kenneth Weigel, James Wiesner, Richard Young, and Lawrence Zerfas During the year we added Cleola Denney, Neva Boese and Ruth Ann Suiter We lost Duane Ferguson, Gary Louellin, Jean Horner, Frank Bieker, Robert Bieker, and Bill Weaver Our sponsor during our freshmen year was Mrs Lou Verne Dougherty Rudolph Erbert was elected president, Jeanie Rathbun vice president, and Janet Nicholson secretary treasurer of the class Elaine Armbruster, Eddie Thomas and Larry Cookson were our re presentatlves to the Student Congress During the summer of 1950 we lost Rhilicia Anderson, Larry Cookson, Jack Horner, Jean Horner and Lois Johnson We started our sophomore year in September with the addition of Robert Peterson, Norman Younger and Don Cochran During the year we lost Jack Arnswald, Verle Orton, Don Cochran, Ralph Giebler and Vivian Schuster We added Wayne Rupp that year We had a total of 6h pupils at the beginning of the year Rudolph Erbert was our sophomore president, Jeanie Rathbun vice president and Billie Edwards secretary treasurer Our Student Congress representatives were Donald Staab, Janet Rader, and Ruth Ann Suiter Mr Garland Longhofer was our sponsor When we enrolled for our junior year, we found that we had lost Robert Augustine, Lloyd Jacobs, Robert Engel, Lucas Romey, Alberta Sauer, Margaret Waslnger, Norman Younger, Hilary Weigel, Stanley Walter, Billie Edwards, Neva Boese, and Barbara Baugher With our new student Delores Fowler there were M8 of us The class officers secretary, Donald Staab party at BHS, the STUDY Doris Linville Our class sponsors who were, president Don Rowland, vice president Andy Pfeifer, and treasurer Jim Hamburg were sponsored by the first political HALL ANGELS PARTY, which was endorsed by the librarian, Miss were Miss Elisabeth Whitaker and Mr George Meeker During our junior year we chose maroon and gray as our class colors, the bleeding heart as our class flower, and 'God helps them that help themselves' as our class motte Our representatives to the Student Congress in our junior year were Donald Schoech, Darrell Gabel, and Janet Nicholson During the year we lost Eddie Thomas, Lawrence Zerfas, Delbert Dietrich, and Delores Fowler In the summer vacation of 1952 we lost Donald Kahn, Doris Kahn, James Augustine, and Ruth Ann Suiter As we enrolled for our last year at BHS, Phyllis Lefstead and Glenn Koestel were added to our number to make the count h2 almighty seniors. Don Rowland was president of the senior class, Robert Peter on vice president and Jim Hamburg secretary treasurer Student Congress representatives were Donald Staab, Andy Pfeifer, and David Zerfas Our class sponsor was Miss Elisabeth Whitaker We the senior class of 1953 will always remember our days at BHS and honestly be lieve that it is a wonderful institution and like all institutions has room for improve ment Also we believe high school should be included in every persons life Such is the history of the class of Ellis High School for 1953 Secretary Treasurer of Class of '53.
