BACK ROW: Chester Kimble. Roger Kramp. Bill Buckbeeand Marlin Isern. 2 EHS Staff This year the staff of E.H.S. tried to make our school the best possible. Mr. Cavanaugh, our new principal, added a fifteen minute break between second and third hours. During the break, Stuco sold rolls. Overall it was a year filled with excitement and enthusiasm. a. Secretary. Clco Thomason makes last minute corrections on Mr. Wilson's news letter, h. Business Manager. Fred Meyer, reviews financial reports. c. Office secretaries. Kdna Jenisch and Mildred Burroughs, keep the office in good working condition. 3 a. Ambrose Sauber does one of the routine jobs of keeping the school grounds clean and neat. b. Mildred Biby. Mary Ann Brungardt. Violet Davis, and Doris Schmidt take time out from preparing lunch to pose for a picture. c. Ruth Corbett, the school nurse, writes a student an admit slip after making sure all is well. d. The three janitors. Fred Schmidt. Clayton Doty, and Herb Marmie. 4 6 7 Mr. Sturtz had more than 100 students in Art and photography this year. The students did works in oils, acry lic, and water color. They also screen printed. Art I students also enjoyed finger painting. a. Mark McQuadeand Marty Lowe take a moment to reflect on what they have just painted with their fingers. b. Philip Robl and Todd Bidle. Art I students, learn to paint with acrylics. c. Mr. Sturtz’s Motto: Force is the only way.” d. Jeff Roth screen prints in Honors Art. e. John Ingalls. Brian Deen. and Rod Harrington make coil pots in Art I f. Mr. Sturtz assista Honors Art student. Scott Stremel. in cleaning a screen. 9 Mrs. Nancy Converse taught English 111 and IV. In English III. the students worked on short stories and writing compositions. They also worked on improving their grammar. In English IV, students studies mythology and better ways to write. a. An interested E.iglish class listens to Mrs. Converse explain how to write short stories. b. Mrs. Converse assists Mark Thill in English IV. c. Mrs. Converse talks to one of her English IV classes. d. English II class works on assignment given by Mr. Neelly. 10 ‘‘A English I and Basic English 1 were taught by Mike Westerman. They worked on things ranging from short stories to Greek mythology. They also made and filmed movies. Many of the students made different projects for the study of mythology. Mr. Westerman used different methods to teach the class such as the Jeopardy game for test reviewing. a. Julie Parish finds Mr. Westerman’s lectures really interesting. b. Mr. Westerman. English I and Basic English teacher, reviews students for test with use of a Jeopardy game. c. Zane Kramp competes in a game of Jeopardy. d. JoEllen Klepper and Jean Feist read some books of interest for English I. cY bA dY 11 Mr. Hogg's Spanish class learns the basics of speaking Spanish. They learn counting and basic word construction. a. Mr. Hogg smiles in Spanish. b. Penny Barragan studies intently. c. Greg Thorson and Tim Scheuerman work together on their assignment. d. Byron Hauser: A diligent worker. e. Randy Haddon watches Amy Isern finish her lessons. f. The Spanish class socializes after a hard day at work. 12 German I and II and Latin I and II were taught by Vickie Moreland. In German I and Latin I. the students learn the basic sentence structure and how to speak and translate the languages. In German II and Latin II. they learned the cases and about the culture and geography of their land. a. JoEllen Klepper and Zane Kramp work busily on (heir assignments for Miss Moreland. b. Miss Moreland, points out humorous facts of interest to the class. c. Lori Wilson tries to help Joyce Grant understand her assignment d. Penny Callison glances for a picture, while Denise Krom stares into space. e. An interested German class listens to Marty Straub rattle off in German II. a A 13 Resolved: “That the Federal government should establish a comprehensive program to regulate health care in the United States. The Debate team consists of seven members this year. They did very well in the tournaments they attended. The Advanced Speech class consisted of ten members. By the end of the season nearly all the members qualified for state. a. First and second place Debate trophies. b. Mr. Hogg instructs Brad Urban in the proper techniques of giving a speech. c. They gained speed and built confidence in their abilities. Shorthand I learned brief forms, principles, derivatives, and phrases. Mr. Flax and Mr. Vogt shared in teaching Advanced Typing and Shorthand. They worked on a simulated business called Serendipity. a. Sue Menges and Joyce Gram learn typing techniques in Typing I. b. Mr. Flax radiales friendliness in class. c. Jane DcWcrff and Penny Kowalsky read in Shorthand II. d. Terri Sparks writes her lessons in Shorthand I. e. Jacque Tyler and Joan Thomas work in Advanced Typing. 15 Bruce Arnold taught American Government and World History 1 and II. which deal with history since the beginning of time until now. American Government teaches how the government is run. a. World History students listen to another interesting lecture by Mr. Arnold. b. Mr. Arnold tries to look pleased while grading some American Government tests. c. A very busy American Government class works on yet another assignment. d. Greg Manning works hard while Amy Isem and Shelly Hammer discuss the assignment. SHH! Charles Dittrick is resting. hA Social Science a. American history students take notes. b. Mr. Harrington uses his usual sign to quiet the class. c. Students study maps in American History d. Jean Fisher. Jacque Tyler, and Leah Fry look over notes before quiz. e. With a lot of fast talking, he convinces the citizens that trouble is near. He proceeds to suggest correcting this problem by starting a boy's band. The ceremony was concluded with Marvin Birzer singing. “This One's For You. a. 77‘s Homecoming Ceremony selling was decorated by the Rockettes. b. The football cheerleaders cheer the Eagles on to a homecoming victory against the Stafford Trojans. c. Crown bearers. Mindy North and Ryan Schartz. entertain the audience. d. Marv in Birzer sings the theme song. “This One’s For You.” 41 JA The Volleyball team was coached by Karen Snay. The team consisted mainly of upperclassmen. Patty Kasselman. a promising sophomore, placed in several tournaments: second at Ellinwood. second at Sterling, second at Ellsworth, and third at Hesston. There were no outstanding individual players, but rather a group of young men working together towards the common goal of giving their best to accomplish success. Pre-season polls rated the Eagles as low as fifth in CPL play.
