Also, instead of selling holly, the organi- zation sold ‘‘School Emblem,” “Help,” and “Vote” pillows. For entertainment, the Kayettes sponsored the annual Kayette Christmas Dance and a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. Near the end of the year, the girls held a Dad and Daughter supper, and sponsored the Egghead Banquet. In addition, they enjoyed many interesting and informative programs. It was indeed a “good year” for Kayettes. 1972-73 officers are: Claudia Reser, President; Susan Pruner, Vice-President; Lisa Wirtz, Sandy Miller, Candy Haston, Kim Schartz, Denise Lloyd, Naccy Richardson, Joanie Feist, Cindy Staab, and Kathy Bartels. Eighteen year old Lucy Choque, from Cuzco, Peru, spent ten months living with the Lawrence Chain family. Lucy participated in many school activities includ- ing AFS Club, Rockettes, and Kayettes. She likes to travel and to constantly learn new things. Lucy plans to study at the uni- versity in the field of economics or architecture, when she returns to Peru. Under the International Fel- lowship program, two boys from Brazil came to EHS. Christiano Campos of Sao Paulo made his home with the Phillys Bartels family. Nineteen-year-old Chris spent six months in Ellinwood. His favorite subject in school was Art. Upon returning to Bra- zil, Chris plans to enter college to study electronic engineering. Mauro Horowitz, who now makes his home in Porto Allegre also lived in Rio de Janeiro and in Israel. Mauro’s American par- ents were the Charles Con- verse’s, with whom he lived for three months. He is interested in philosophy, sociology, lan- guages, and biology. His favor- ite subjects here at Ellinwood were Trigonometry and Physics. Mauro plans to continue his education by studying biology and subjects related with medi- cine upon his return to Brazil. Two local personalities trav- eled abroad this year. Judi Bar- tels went abroad under the AFS program. She spent one year in Santa Lucia, Argentina study- ing, learning, and experiencing new things. She lived with the Joaquin Albors family. A new approach was tried this year for the publication of the 1973 yearbook and newspa- pers. An editor was assigned to each publication with the remainder of the staff working on both the yearbook and news- paper. Each student was involved in all phases of the publications. The Eagle newspaper was again published weekly, except during holidays and exam periods. The new deadline dates for the year- book enabled .everyone to con- tribute to both publications. The newspaper was mimeographed by the office staff with Paula Taylor and Susan Pruner in charge of stencil typing. Stu- dents were also required to do written assignments from the two text books to improve their writing skills. The 1973 yearbook got a big assist when the dark room was relocated in the new Art Depart- ment, formerly the Eagles Nest. The new facilities are much larger and can be used by both yearbook photographers and art students under the direction of Mr. Edgar Sturtz, Art Instruc- tor. A new 35mm Konica cam- era and Honeywell flash unit were purchased for the year- book staff. RmvMms Jack Rade 38 f-fotneCMruiiCj B.N.C.
