V Whippet Yearbook Staff Dear Reader: Just as the 1978-79 school year brought many changes to the school system, so has-it brought many changes to the yearbook. The individual pictures of high school and junior high school students are much larger than in years past. There are many more and larger snapshots of students in both the elementary and secondary schools. In-class activities are stressed to a greater degree. We hope that you will enjoy these and the other, less noticeable changes in our book. Thank you for buying the 1979' WHIPPET. Whatis New. The answer to that question would have to be all kinds of things if it were asked about the 1978-79 school year at Ellington. Of course the most obvious new thing at school this year is the new high school building and gymnasium. Along with the new high school came the decision to move the seventh and eighth grade classes into the same buildings as the high school classes. This move vacated the old junior high building and parts of the old high school. The 1978-79 school year was a time for changes in many things other than the buildings. The first all-school Christmas party was held, and was a cooperative effort among many of the clubs in the school. The party was held ing the old gymnasium and eliminated individual parties in the classrooms. I Top: the new building is in the foreground and the old building in the background. The smoke coming from the old Jr. high building is a familiar sight, but this year junior and senior high students have classes in the new building. Above: A set of stairs going to the old building. Center right: Mr. Altman and Susi Duncan at the all-school Christmas Party. Right: Miss . Parker, Mrs. Meloy and Miss Carmody at the Christmas Party. Far right: Kenny Barton prepares to mount his donkey at the donkey basketball game.
