D A 3532132 SENIOR PLAY SMALL TOWN ROMEO Smadl Town Romeo , as you probably know, is the name of the class play that the Seniors of 1939 presented on March 24. The Small Town Romeo was Leland Engledow and he rescued a Pretty Hero- ine from the clutches of the Village Miserf' The Pretty Heroine was Norma Myers and the Village Miser was Herb Hendricks. There was a Town Constable fClair Dillmanl, who falls in love with the Maid-of-All-Work fGarnet Truesdelj. The cast was the following: A Playwright from New York ...... Leland Engledow Young Proprietor of a Hotel -- ..... Norma Myers Village Constable ..... Q .... --- Clair Dillman Spinster Maid-of-All-Work --- -- Garnet Truesdel .Mysterious Guest .......... ..... L . Dee Addie ' Another Mysterious Guest --- --- Mary K. Winkler Village Miser .......... --- Herb Hendricks Village School Teacher --- ..... Ruth Curry Banker's Daughter ...... --- Maxine Brown P e HBACK STAGE STUFF We heard more about .Garnet's love affairs back stage than the audience heard. Much more! Maxine Brown almost got drowned. Clair brought a girl to the play, but did not know her name. Garnet went in the dressing room when Clair was dressing exactly four timesg we counted 'em. Clair went in the dressing room to put on his night shirt and left the door open! Mary K. really took heart powders. We wonder why? Addie could hear perfectly well back stage.. Miss Raines and Mr. Stewart bribed us to prevent our chewing gum. Mr. Stewart gave each of us a bar of candy and Miss Raines gave us chew- ing gum. Norma and Whitey practiced their kissing back stage. It's funny they would not do it on the stage. Maybe they don't like to be watched. L. Dee could only laugh when someone told him a funny story. L. Dee's expression when 'Mary K. and Norma gave him his reward for fixing the stairway. I Thirty-nine

From what we hear, the freshmen now think it is fun to run around the track with- out their shoes. They tried to feed them candy and when they didn't like the cotton in it, they made them go home. The Sophomores then had a nice time at their party. SENIORS GO TO VINCENNES The Senior Civics Class went to Vincennes to visit the George Rogers Clark Memorial. The opening event on the program was the Vincennes High School Band. Father Deery and Professor Lock- ridge gave talks on some of the things Clark has done for this coun- try. They toured all of the important places and came home feeling they had acquired much knowledge for use in the future. JUNIOR CLASS PLAY The play, Mystery at Midnight, was given by the Junior Class. It was a three act comedy, but I think most of the people were afraid -it was really spooky! These people were included in the cast: Eugene Miller, Virginia Day, Loester Powell, Marian Bastin, Geral- dine Cole, Juanita King, Eugene Moore, Charles May, Vera Taylor, and Samuel .Baynes. Q SENIORS SPONSOR TEXAS RANGERS 'The Texas Rangers , sponsored by the Senior Class, came to the old gym to give us a performance. They are from radio station WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky. There were quite a number of peo- ple who came out to see them perform, and I think everyone agreed that it was well worth their money. SENIORS SPONSOR SUNSHINE SUE AND ROCK-CREEK RANGERS Sunshine Sue and the Rock-Creek Rangers were here from station WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky. A large crowd attended the performance in which many of the students took part in an amateur contest. The Seniors sponsored the show, and it made us very happy when one of the girls in the class was a member of the quartet which won first prize. ' Forty
