l Ei:iEiE1E1ElE2E2E1E2E1E L L A M -A R A D A 2E2f2EiEfE1EiE1EiEiE1:1: HISTORY OF CLASS OF 1939 In digging through the annals of time amid dozens of dust cov- ered documents, we noticed a picture bearing the label of Primary Class of 1927 of Ellettsville Public Schools, Ellettsville, Indiana. This brings to one's mind a room full of timid, shy, little creatures, some with dirty faces, some clinging to Mrs. Brown's skirts, some crying, and some getting their knuckles cracked with a ruler. Such behavior and conduct lasted for one year only, at which time we were promoted to Miss Price's room. Year after year the happy, carefree group of youngsters progressed, until one day in September, 1935, Mr. Weathers designated us as the freshmen of Ellettsville High School and appoint- ed Mr. Carl Smith as our sponsor. At this time new recruits were re- ceived from Cross Roads School, Joint School, Vernal School, Gross School, Bloomington School, and ten new members came in from the eighth grade. This boosted the class roll to a total of sixty-six, which was the largest freshman class that has ever entered Ellettsville High School. Even though we outnumbered the upper classmen, we took our initiation in the form of old-fashioned hazing, but to our dismay, Mr. Weathers announced, at the end of the noon hour, that next year we would give a party and initiate the next class in the regular way. As this class traveled the upward road to higher education, one by one we members became lost in the insurmountable heights of geom- etry and the pitfalls of Caesarg unable to read the signboards of alge- bra and our digestion made bad by sour English, the class roll dimin- ished to forty-three at the beginning of the junior year. At this time we found our pathway much easier. Because of the death of our sponsor, during the summer months, Mr. Clarence Stewart was appointed as sponsor and Billy Kelly as president. All efforts were directed toward that great event, the Jun- ior-Senior Banquet. After the meal, all members of both classes and the faculty engaged in a snowball fight and then withdrew to the Indiana Theatre. In order to make this banquet possible, it was nec- essary for the juniors to sell candy at the ball games and give two plays, entitled THREE DAYS OF GRACE, and WHO SAID QUIT? We also sponsored the WHAS radio stars, The Texas Rang- ers and served lunch to three hundred spellers. In the fall of 1938, thirty-nine members appeared in our senior lines with determination written on our faces: a determination to suc- ceed. This year is the climax-Miss Raines was appointed co-sponsor and Grant Stewart, Jr., presidentg and with the co-operation of every class member in soliciting ads, in sponsoring two radio programs, The Texas Rangers, and Sunshine Sue and in presenting the senior play, Small Town Romeo, we are able to publish this annual, which is another milestone of our success and which we hope will guide and inspire the future classes to continue making old E. H, S. better. Fifteen

I, Robert Jackson, do hereby will my ability to be center in bas- ketball to Ralph Kelley and my Bing Crosby voice to Hubert Grubb. I, Helen Johnston, do hereby will my acrobatic stunts to Avonelle Weathers and my honor to go with a basketball boy to Juanita King. I, Billy Kelly, do hereby will my bright colored shirts to Bobby Grubbs and my ability to skip literature class to Loester Powell.
