P. tDutchJ Henry taught stagecraft and boy's gym and health, which included first aid, home rela- tions and the class room part of driver training. Once a week he directed dance instruction in waltz and bop for boys and girls. Mr. Henry attended Wfashington State and Co- lumbia University. MISS BAKER Gladyes Baker coached tennis, and was G.A.A. advisor and Health co-ordinator. She taught girls health which included first aid and home nursing, in addition to gym classes. Miss Baker is an alumnus of E.H.S., graduated from Central and Columbia University. MR. SNODGRASS jack Snodgrass was director of our high school band. We will not forget the drive to excel that he vro'ected into the students as soloists, ensembles I dl b d an as a oy. Mr. Snodgrass attended the University of Idaho. MR. CAMEALY Mr. Edward Camealy taught the choral music at E.H.S. Among activities during the year was co-di- recting the Messiah , and his duties as president of the Community Concert Association. Mr, Camealy attended the University of Illinois. MR. BOWEN Ted Bowen was boy's counselor and teacher of chemistry. His work as counselor brought him to know well the problems ot' all of the boys. As co- advisor of the sophomore class, he emphasized get- ting off to a good start, and keeping it up. He graduated from Wliitiiian and W.S.C. 1 ,ls ,.-x s xi! ew fx Mr. Camealy Mr. Bowen

51 1 S1 1 1 1 MR. ROWLEY Lloyd Q Stub j Rowley, along with being the football coach and asisstant basketball coach, taught five classes of first year typing. During 195-i-ii he was Letterman's Club Advisor, and Class Night Ad- visor. Mr. Rowley attended Central Wfashington College of Education and Stanford University. MR. SORENSON Our new basketball coach for 1934-Si was Stan Soreson, an alumnus of Ellensburg High School. He taught history and civics, was assistant football coach and class night advisor. After his graduation from E.H.S., Mr. Sorenson attended Wfashington State College. He taught at Highland for five years before coming back to Ellens- burg. MRS. WILKINS Lina Wilkins taught secretarial training and shorthand. She was, during the year, senior class co- ordinator and Triple E advisor. Her homeroom was so pepped up about Pep week that they took first prize in the contest. MISS SHUCK Miss Anna B. Shuck taught bookkeeping and of- fice machines, in addition to her duties as girls' ad- visor. She was also advisor of Pep Club, and co- advisor of the sophomore class, and the 1954 Home- coming was in her charge. We ,,,, E - wrstssixlid. KJ' .mi Mr. Purnell Miss Argall Mr. Gates MR. PU RNELL Mr. Virgil Purnell taught biology and was ad- visor of Bulldog Guard. Those of us who attended the games, saw Mr. Purnell busily overseeing the sale of tickets, Outside of the class room his interests have been in sports and outdoor activities. He attended Wash- ington State College. MISS ARGALL Miss Ruth Argall taught radio production, sopho- more speech, and also helped students prepare speeches tor the many occasions when this talent was required. Miss Argall was very interested in read- ing, the stage, and all good entertainment media. Miss Argall attended the University of North Da- kota and the University of Washington. MR. GATES Mr. Max Gates, taught English, Latin, and Drama at E.H.S. Mr. Gates was also director of the Senior and All-School plays, and advisor of Latin Club. He was very interested in puppets and all aspects of Drama. Mr. Gates attended the University ot' Montana, the University ot' Wlashington, and as one ot the first recipients ot the john Hay Fellowship, he attended Columbia University. MR. McKIM Lester McKim, who taught French and literature at E.H.S., was a Bulldog Guard advisor and pre- mier of French Club. Schools which Mr. McKim had attended were Oregon College ot' Education, Central Wtisliingtori College of Education, and the University of Wzisli- ington, on a scholarship from the French govern- ment. Nd Mr. McKim gf? Mr. Stearns M R. STEA RNS Mr. Ditk Stearns, who taught literature and Eng- lish at Ellensburg High School. also had the respon- sibility of seeing that all assemblies went smoothly. He attended Westerii and the University oi Wfashington. He taught in Xwhatcom County and af- ter army service he came to E.H.S. Mr. Stearns has been President ot' the Depart- ment of Classroom Teachers of the Wilsliington Edu- cation Association for the past two years. 13
