WHO' WO Sc ool Progress lhe Ellensburg schools are recognized as being among the best of the state fhls year many very progressive features have been added A partlal llst of these features are ym cafeteria shops art studio home economlcs department musxc chapel radlo system vlsual educatlon department and a large amount of new equipment The old gym located rn the Senior Hlgh was dlfflcult to reach and lnadequate ln all ways for the larger student body It has been replaced by an ultra modern bulldlnf easy to approach and beautiful to look at Wlth nts showers and lockers It IS adequate ln every way The old gym has been converted into a communlty hall of many uses It IS ln daily use as a cafeteria lts excellent floor can be cleared IH a very few moments and becomes surtable for dancmf and other cultural amusements lts excellently equlpped kxtchen and new rimp approaches make lt a very popular banquet hall The bulldmg used as a shop has been converted into a MUSIC Chapel Separated from the mam buildings and arranf ed especlally for work ln muslc It has added greatly to the efflclency of the Music Department It wlll remain a beloved spot to muslc students through the years to come The General Sclence students now have a laboratory class room especially bullt for that purpose Thls vltal course now has an opportunity to fulfill 1ts educational mlsslon Two large well equlpped unlts now make the Home Economrcs Depart ment more attractrve and more useful The group of rooms used for the department have been built especlally for this type of work lqhe bug bear of all vocatlonal teachers tlme lost ln beglnnmg, and puttmg away work by the student has been ellmmated The new efflcrent and attractrve shops have become the prrde of both teacher and student Courses ln metal work wood work and sheet metal work auto mechanlcs and mechanrcal drawrnf are offered Another lnstruc tor wlll be added next year to this department The street running between the two mam bulldlnffs has been closed to auto traffic Students look forward to the entire removal of thrs street The radxo system whrch has many purposes and pOSSlbllltlCS has been added and lnstalled ln the hugh schools By nts use announcements programs and outslde radio programs can be broadcasted to any room or any number of rooms when deslrable rlhe system also Gives telephone servlce from any room to any other room A popular development has been the broadcasting of forum dlscusslons and programs by varlous classes A picture machme under the supervlslon of the visual educatlon depart ment brings plctures for noon tlme entertainment or for class room or assembly use at a cost of film transportatron A new Garage wrth repaxr shop for housing and reparrmg the schools mne buses was built durmx, the past year 'l he bus service IS being enlarged servlng not only regular day students of the grade and hugh school but carry mg normal school students of the dlstrlct and offermg trlp servxce for school functlons All these achievements show not only progress ln material thlngs but a progressive community splrlt 11 . s y ,, l l E .
