Nadja DeVillermay FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS Hi! I’m Nadja. I come from France, well exactly from the French Riviera — It’s kind of like California. So you can imagine that when I arrived here, I was very surprised and it was a big change for me. First, the weather is different. We never had less than — -10 degrees F and that was the bad- dest days! Plus, we have the beach and me and my friends (or every kid) use to go swimming from March to October! Here, no beach but a new life, and a new family. I live with Mary and Russ Pfeifer — they’re very kind with me and I consider them more like friends than parents! I also discovered that cowboys didn’t exist only in western movies, but I’m still looking for the Indians! I learn a lot by living in a small town, where I live in France is a town called Nice with 600,000 people — A bit smaller than New York but a lot bigger than Ellendale!! I discovered how kids live here, their rules and values which are a lot different than mine. It’s been very in¬ teresting to be an American girl for a year. Except that I already gained 6 lbs. in 5 months, but it’s the only regret for coming to the U.S.! I’d like to thank everybody for being so gentle with me during this year! When I was told I was coming to North Dakota I didn’t expect to have nearly as much fun as I’m having. I’m staying with the Betting family and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer family. I’ve also made many new friends. I’m really glad to come to Ellendale. Some of my favorite times were ski¬ ing for the first time, having Christmas in the middle of the winter, going to Washington D.C. and New York with my host sister, and going to Canada with a group of exchange students. In fact, nearly everything this year has been great fun. I’ll never forget what a great year I had as an exchange student.
