There have been a few exceptions, however. Take, for example, John Klipfel who tested Mr. Ranum’s authority by making an illegal use of the intercom during school hours. Jennifer Jones. 18 1988 Redbird [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] Nadja DeVillermay FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS Hi! I’m Nadja. I come from France, well exactly from the French Riviera — It’s kind of like California. So you can imagine that when I arrived here, I was very surprised and it was a big change for me. First, the weather is different. We never had less than — -10 degrees F and that was the bad- dest days! Plus, we have the beach and me and my friends (or every kid) use to go swimming from March to October! Here, no beach but a new life, and a new family. I live with Mary and Russ Pfeifer — they’re very kind with me and I consider them more like friends than parents! I also discovered that cowboys didn’t exist only in western movies, but I’m still looking for the Indians! I learn a lot by living in a small town, where I live in France is a town called Nice with 600,000 people — A bit smaller than New York but a lot bigger than Ellendale!! I discovered how kids live here, their rules and values which are a lot different than mine. It’s been very in¬ teresting to be an American girl for a year. Except that I already gained 6 lbs. in 5 months, but it’s the only regret for coming to the U.S.! I’d like to thank everybody for being so gentle with me during this year! When I was told I was coming to North Dakota I didn’t expect to have nearly as much fun as I’m having. I’m staying with the Betting family and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer family. I’ve also made many new friends. I’m really glad to come to Ellendale. Some of my favorite times were ski¬ ing for the first time, having Christmas in the middle of the winter, going to Washington D.C. and New York with my host sister, and going to Canada with a group of exchange students. In fact, nearly everything this year has been great fun. I’ll never forget what a great year I had as an exchange student. Not only did Mr. Ulmer provide a good leadership but this year there were eight seniors that also helped the younger wrestlers to have an Awesome year. This year we had 5 state qualifiers, of that Todd placed 1st, John F. placed 2nd, and John K. placed 5th. Overall the team placed 4th at the tournament. They placed 4th at Conference, 2nd at the Linton Invitational and 8th at regionals, missing state qualification by only 5 strokes. I I n PROM ' 88 This year Prom pages are different from years before. It was decided to have the pictures of the decorating in¬ cluded. This year’s prom was very successful, there were a total of 43 couples for the grand march. Two themes were used this year, “IN MY DREAMS!” and “WHY CANT THIS NIGHT GO ON FOREVER!” The juniors spent many long hours putting together a very enjoyable prom for the seniors.
