This year was the first year of the “Little Five Conference. It Is made up of LaMoure, Edgeley, Qwinner, Sargent Central, and Ellendale. Ellendale won this conference championship with a 4-0 record In conference play. Ellendale played a very good defense all year scoring 241 points and giving the opponent only 84. Mr. Alger, the Cards rolled to a 18-2 regular season win-loss record. The Cards ran up a winning streak of 14 games in a row. They placed 5rd in the Carrington tourney held over Christmas vacation. They cruised to a first place win in districts, with Coach Alger being named District III Coach of the Year. The Cardinals took 3rd in Regionals after losing to Kindred, 50-46, in 2nd play. Coach Alger was also named Region I Coach of the Year. Margo Brost and Rhonda Wallace were named to the 1983 all¬ conference team. Many records were broken this year. Margo Brost set the record for the most rebounds in a game. The team broke the school record for having 82 jxiints scored in one game against Montpelier. Also, there were two new rules added to the game this year. One is the three point line, and the other was allowing only two time outs p er half each team. These new rules and many other things made this year exciting for the girl ' s basketball team. A girl named Snoddy who looked like she lived in a pig sty set out to catch herself a husband. She doesn ' t quite get the husband she expects, but settles for true love instead. On the local level a panel of judges selected Allison Steinwand as Best Actress, Shawn Qeriing as Best Actor, Cory Quike as Best Supporting Actor, and Catyn Micoiai as Best Supporting Actress. Allison Steinwand, moreover, won a Superior Actress Award in District VI Competition. Lloyd Bliley entered Extemporaneous Speaking, Karen Toppen delivered an Original Oratory, and both Deb Brandenburger and Catyn Micolai entered the Serious Interpreta¬ tion division. Lloyd and Karen advanced to State Competition In Bismark, where Lloyd received a Superior rating. As a result of their efforts, the girls brought home the State Class B first place trophy for the second consecutive year. The Cardettes used Frank Stallone ' s Far From Over for their competition routine. Competition was held this year on Feb. 11th, in Jamestown, and the girls were once again met by a car caravan and a police escort The Cardettes learned three new routines this year. She brought us a friendly smile, her friendship, and shared her customs with us. Yuri stayed with the Bettings as her host family. While here, she noticed that the schools were esp ecially different from Japan ' s In that the American schools were more relaxed and the requirements for graduation were less demanding. Circumstances prevented her from completing this year with us. We miss her greatly and wish her life ' s best for her. ADMINISTRATION The Cllendale School Board has been very bu this year. One of the main jobs was to find a principal, Mr. Paschke. Other concerns have been with budgeting the finances, working with the bond issue to get a new school, and eliciting ideas from an architect to redesign the rooms. Mew policies and procedures for the school are made and voted on here. The school is fortunate to have a concerned school board and administration. The Janitors clean the halls, and rooms, and keep the graffiti off the bathrooms. Thanks to the Bus Drivers who put up with a lot of noise and put in a lot of miles.
