Self-discipline was a tasting lesson learned by the 1989 Cardettes. It had to be in order for all twelve members to be able to slide into the splits. Remembering that practice makes perfect, the Cardettes spent hours after school with Advisor Mary Ulmer imprinting it into their minds that they all had to stretch and point their toes. The girls performed at four home games and at the District tournaments in Valley City. The precision drill team entertained the Cardinal fans with routines to a toy soldier medley and to the tune Rock That . On March 28, they entered the State Drill Team Competition at Central Valley High School. It was their French braids, eye-catching outfits, sweet smiles, and most of all the practice that proudly earned the Cardettes a second place trophy under stiff competition. 1981 Cardinal [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] 31 1981 Cardinal [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] Honor Society The Honor Society held an organizational meeting at which Glenn Mastel was elect¬ ed to the office of president and they organized their induction of new members.
