Here’s to you 1980 students of good old EHS. After all, you made it possible. You played the parts and here they are captured and collected in a collage of memo¬ ries. As seventh graders, there was the excitement that came with the day of regis¬ tration and the insecure feeling of the first day of school when the building seemed so enormous. The upper classmen returned with the question of is it all going too fast, or not fast enough. Along with October, came Homecoming Royalty, Queen Lon Tiegs and King Dennis Falk. Wedding bells rang as we were gathered in Holy Matrimony at the mock wedding of Tina Rada and Foster Beckstrand, whose marriage only managed to last the sort time of an hour. The pep club members brought the school spirit afire and went home with hoarse throats. The introduction of the Cardettes brought originality as they performed in new uniforms and in a change of style to the song “Born to Be Alive”. The Juniors were in a state of desperation and would do anything for money. Fund raising took up Saturday afternoons to sell magazines, wash firetrucks, and to clean sunflower seeds. After all their hard work and honest effort, they put on an exotic Oriental prom on the night of April 12. Graduation brought mixed emo¬ tions with feelings of accomplishment, but yet maybe a tear in the eye or a lump in the throat. Just as the steps seemed never ending and each class went on for hours, the last day arrived before we knew it. Now we have to stop and think where all the time went. So go ahead, turn the pages, and look back on 1980 with smiles and laughter. 1980 Redbird [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] WHO WHAT WHERE SPORTS Boy ' s Basketball .• .. 18 Boy ' s Track. 22 Footbal . 6 Girl ' s Basketball . 12 Girl ' s Track. 23 Golf.1. Victory sums up the 25th annual Homecoming week in the Athletic Department. The girls’ basketball team started it off with their victories over Britton and Edge- ley. On Friday, the fighting Cardinal football team con¬ quered the Ashley Aces. During the week, the student body displayed their school spirit by following dress codes. Cowboys and cowgirls roamed the halls of EHS on Western Day. Hats, glasses, the 50’s, and the school colors, red and black, were also a part of the dress code. A Dress-up Day was held which, in itself, is an annual event for some. Coronation was held between the girls’ games on Thurs¬ day. Lori Tiegs and Dennis Falk were crowned Queen and King. The other royalty included Stacey Snyder, Tim Johnson, Renee Vander Vorste, Amy Klatt, Doug Kendall, Nona Martin, and Gary Hokana. A Homecoming Dance, put on by Student Council and FHA, followed the football game. Music was provided by the Pond Brothers. Top Left: Queen Princesses, Top Center: Stacey Snyder, Dennis Falk. The Cardinals’ winning season end¬ ed with a 10-4 record which was the best ever. Victories over Britton and LaMoure fired up the school spirit during Homecom¬ ing Week. The girls’ team placed in District competition for the first time with their win over Oakes, 28-26, for 3rd place. In the chal¬ lenge game for 2nd place, the Cards’ were defeated by Montpelier. The total of 79 points scored against Edgeley was a school record for the most points in one game. A record for 680 points in one season was also established. The B-Squad, coached by Shawn Flaherty, had an outstanding year. They finished their successful season with a 12-2 record. A poster contest was held during Homecoming Week. The class of ’83 showed spirit by sup¬ porting their Homecoming Candidates with the most posters. The cheerleaders spent hours practicing cheers and planning pep- fests consisting of pudding, pie-eating, bub- ble-gum, and baby-face contests. The bas¬ ketball cheerleaders set up a Pep Club to keep school spirit soaring. EHS athletes al¬ ways give it their best in competition. They win some and lose some, but there’s always that winning spirit. Athletes came out of f ames with all kinds of pains, bumps, and ruises while cheerleaders and faithful fans went home with hoarse throats. What’s that we’ve got?
