They restored The Pit with new coats of paint, paneling, a pop machine, radio, and occasionally, homemade goodies! It was a year of senior pictures, announcements, memory books, graduation caps and class keys. Along with the regular high school activities, being a Senior meant getting mall from all surrounding colleges or trade schools, using up lots of pens on pictures, memory books, etc., spending a lot of money on postage for announcements and thank you notes, filling out college forms, roasting a pig on Sklp Day , taking ACT tests. Baccalaureate Service, graduation, and becoming close to friends in your class you ve grown up with for years. It was all of this and It was the end. Elma de Jong, a foreign exchange student from Holland, came to the US on the Youth For Understanding program for a year. She stayed with the Fred Brost family, Elma attended school at EHS as a senior.
