Juniors Present The Imaginary Invalid The cast of The Imaginary Invalid is as follows: Row 1: Jane Boekelheide, Jean Long, Warren Redmond, Debby Gackle. Peggy Schock, Tom Evenson. ROW II: Steve Scherbenske, Jesse Schimke, Terry Roth, Steve Hamar, Bob Schrivner, Larry Veland. Monsieur Ardin, the imaginary invalid, is thoroughly a hypochondriac. His daughter, Angelique, is in love with a young man by the name of Cleante. But Ardin insists that she shall marry a man of his choosing, the son of a doctor, Thomas Defois, himself a doctor. Toinette, the maid, and Beralde, Ardin’s brother, do everything possible to dissuade Ardin in his determination to marry Angelique to the stupid Thomas. They are fond of Angelique, and, to further her cause and clinch her affair with Cleante, they ridicule Ardin and his doctors in every conceivable way, trying to show up Ardin’s folly and the doctors’ stupidity. Beline, Ardin’s shrewish wife is determined that Angel¬ ique shall become a nun so that there will be no one but she, Beline, to inherit Ardin’s estate. By many tricks, Toinette and Beralde show up Beline as the mercenary she is and the doctors as the fools they are. They succeed in getting Ardin’s consent for the marriage of Angelique and Cleante, and, in the end, they persuade Ardin to become a doctor himself. 30 1965 Microphone [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota]
