Peggy Schock, Tom Evenson. ROW II: Steve Scherbenske, Jesse Schimke, Terry Roth, Steve Hamar, Bob Schrivner, Larry Veland. Monsieur Ardin, the imaginary invalid, is thoroughly a hypochondriac. His daughter, Angelique, is in love with a young man by the name of Cleante. But Ardin insists that she shall marry a man of his choosing, the son of a doctor, Thomas Defois, himself a doctor. Toinette, the maid, and Beralde, Ardin’s brother, do everything possible to dissuade Ardin in his determination to marry Angelique to the stupid Thomas. They are fond of Angelique, and, to further her cause and clinch her affair with Cleante, they ridicule Ardin and his doctors in every conceivable way, trying to show up Ardin’s folly and the doctors’ stupidity. Beline, Ardin’s shrewish wife is determined that Angel¬ ique shall become a nun so that there will be no one but she, Beline, to inherit Ardin’s estate. By many tricks, Toinette and Beralde show up Beline as the mercenary she is and the doctors as the fools they are. They succeed in getting Ardin’s consent for the marriage of Angelique and Cleante, and, in the end, they persuade Ardin to become a doctor himself. 30 1965 Microphone [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] Fourth Annual Sno-Ball Proves Successful Candidates and the classes they represented were as follows: Debbie Schuldeisz, Jr.; Jane Boekelheide, Soph.; Marcia Fryslie, Fr.; Mavis Merkel, Queen, Sr.; Warren Hokana, King, Sr.; Steve Hamar, Jr.; Duane Marvick, Soph.; Dick Walsh, Fr. The play begins in 1901 in Grover’s Corners where the Gibbs and the Webbs are neighbors. During their childhood George Gibbs and Emily Webb are playmates and their lives are inextricably woven together as neighbors’ lives are likely to be. But as they grow older they pass from this period into a state of romantic but embarrassed interest in one another. And one day George proposes to Emily in the drug store. But their happiness is short-lived, for Emily is taken in death and placed in the village cemetery on a rainy, dreary day. In a vitally moving scene is shown the peace and quiet of death which can never be understood by the living. 1965 Microphone [High School Annual, Ellendale North Dakota] Harvey Presented by Class of ’65 Presenting Harve y is the cast, as follows; ROW I; Cresston Cackle, Carol Redlin, Nancy Ginsbach, Larry Vasvick.
