N 5 23 1C In the year 19U6, thirty-five non-quaking, confident freshies entered the Junior High Assembly. Their confidence was soon shaken, however, and they found that their outstanding brilliancy was apparently unnoticed, especially by the seniors. Then the class was organized. The officers chosen were: president, Jeanette McShane; vice-president, Harold Edwards; secretary and treasurer, Joyce Hill; class reporters, Peggy Walleen and Wayne Gibson; and class adviser, Mrs. Brouillard. We had a good year with lots of parties and lots of learning that was to help us through the rest of high school. For our class picnic we went to Weber ' s Gulch in the hills. There in the wilds we ate our dill pickles and ice cream. The fall of 19 7 found a crowd of green sophomores entering Senior High, chuck full of spirit, charaping at the bit, ea er to start on an active year and grab all the honors within reach. Marvin Griffin was chosen president; Lyle Heitman, vice-president; Michael Hermansen, secretary and treasurer; Nona Mellang and Margaret Walleen, class reporters; and Mrs. Strand, class adviser. Our enrollment dropped to twenty-four that year. Although much was done in the way of fearful drawings and other intimidations on the part of the seniors, in regard to the terrors of initiation, the sophomores survived it all exceedingly well and were made to feel that they were at last a part of Senior High. We chose Fort Ransom for our class picnic. There was not the usual display of enthusiasm that characterized the freshman picnic, but that may have been due to the sophistication. Our candidates for King and Queen, Marvin Griffin and Betty Bauder, won over the other excellent candidates and reigned over the annual Oompah. In 19U8 the sophomores became very grown-up juniors with much pull, push, and ambition. The enrollment was 25 that year, for we had one new member. Class officers were president, Harris Voegeli; vice-president, Nona Mellang; secretary and treasurer, Betty Bauder; class reporters, Jeanette McShane and Ella Steinwand; and class adviser. Miss Onsrud. Then came the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, the major event of the season. Our theme was Spring Serenade . This event was one that enabled the class to show its ingenuity, originality, cooperation, and tact. The banquet was held in the Catholic Church basement and the prom was held in the gymnasium with John Taylor and his orchestra providing the music. Donna Mae Van Sickle of the junior class was made a member of the Keystone Honor Society. The juniors picnicked at Richmond Lake near Aberdeen. A few found time to take a motor boat ride. At last the juniors became the traditional dignified seniors. Harris Voegeli was again chosen president; Marvin Griffin, vice-president; Betty Bauder, secretary and treasurer: class reporters, Nona Mellang and Betty Bauder; and class adviser, Mr. Ingvalson. T he seniors had their turn at initiating the sophomores. This was a very eventful dav for everyone. J Our athletic class shared in eight major football and basketball championships which were won during our four years in high school. As seniors we had nine football lettermen and four basketbaU. lettermen. One girl took part in a twirling organization and received a pm for four years of performing. Three class members received charms for four years of band work, seventeen were active in glee club, and a number took part in speech and musical fest- ivals. Four were given membership in the Keystone Honor Society. Beginning early and increasing in strength was the spirit of an annual. The staff was chosen and work was begun. It was not easy work, and there were many difficulties to over- come. We changed the traditional name Microphone to the The Redbird . Next came the senior play, So Very Young , which was a colossal success. -incV ' u iS the histor y ' the class of 1950.
