c Dramatics and Speech Miss Mina C. Onsrud, in charge of all dra- matics and speech work, has directed a number of successful programs during the year. To her we owe our gratitude and appreciation. 1 i Senior Girls ' Speech Program The Senior Girls’ Speech Program was held in the high school auditorium Thursday, Octo- ber 17, under the direction of Miss Mina C. Onsrud. DoLores Roundy Helen Denkhard Barbara Schook Elizabeth Denkhard Janet Lees Martha Denkhard Betty Jane Muske i i i Senior Play The Senior class presented a three-act play, “Miss Collegiate”, Friday evening, May 16, 1947, in the high school auditorium under the direc- tion of Miss Mina Onsrud. The cast was as follows: Beth Hart Clarice Fountain Karen Haynes Priscilla Prim Mrs. Morgan Drake .... Emily Weller Mrs. Emma Haynes .... Jones Robert Adams Members of the class who constituted the cheering section were: William Bauder, Paul Michaelis, Gerald Nelson, Robert Peterson, Se- bastian Tuchscher and Walter Zahn. This play was unique in that the cast included every mem- ber of the senior class. i i i Speech Festival The fourteenth annual Speech Festival was held at Ellendale in the high school auditorium, Wednesday, March 5, 1947. Sponsored by the Dickey-LaMoure Activities Association, various numbers were presented by Edgeley, LaMoure, Oakes, and Ellendale students. The numbers given by Ellendale High School were: Choral Reading Senior High School Girls Piano Solo Janice Rime Poetry Reading, “The Revenge, A Ballad of the Fleet” (Tennyson) Merlyn Bauder “Clouds” and “Dedication” Girls’ Chorus Mr. Paul J. Harkness, instructor in Dramatics and Forensics at the Northern State Teachers College, Aberdeen, South Dakota, was the critic. i i i Play Festival The one-act play festival, another activity of the Dickey-LaMoure Activities Association, was held at the Oakes High School Auditorium on Friday, March 28, 1947. Mrs. Clara T. Ingvalson, head of the speech department at the Ellendale State Normal School, was the critic. Special music was furnished by the Oakes boys’ chorus. The following plays were presented: “The Blue Teapot”, comedy, by Jean Latham — LaMoure - Mrs. Lydia Graham “Trifles”, tragedy, by Susan Glaspell — Edgeley - Miss Lois Forrest “The Opening Of A Door”, mystery, by Wall Spence — Oakes - Miss Emily Spickler “Jubie”, comedy, by James Reach — Ellendale - Miss Mina C. Onsrud The cast of “Jubie”, under the direction of Miss Onsrud, included Frances McShane, Roland Voegeli, Keith Pierce, Ardys Johnson, Janet Lees, and Joan Randall.
