Opponents (average per game) 23.4 points. GIRLS RESERVES Girl Reserves was organized after the holi- days. The group have been very active. Several meetings have been held to discuss problems of interest to girls. In February a romp was staged in the old gym. The project for the year has been sewing for the senior Red Cross. The girls completed 200 bed socks for wounded soldiers in hospitals (B. and. HIGH SCHOOL BAND A small group of upper-grade and high school students have been valiantly carrying on band work under the able instruction of Mr. E. W. Ackert, assisted during the spring months by Mr. Spencer Hillesland. The band has been a combination of N. I. and high school talent as a number of state school students have been regular members. Public school students participating have been: Wayne Merrick, Gerald Nelson, Keith Pierce and Eugene Krieger, cornets; Inga Bar- sten and Joan Bell, altos; Barton Slemmons, Joan Randall, Margaret Walleen and Ella Stien- wand, clarinets; Duana Bell, Owen Evans and Wilton Barsten, baritones; Keith Pierce and Paul Kern, trombones; Melvin Wanttie, Bass; Danny Slemmons, drums. The band added much to the enjoyment of our basketball games by appearing at a number of the games and playing during intermissions. BAND FESTIVAL On May 13 a concert by the combined bands of Oakes, Ellendale and LaMoure was given in the auditorium. Mr. W. B. Myhrum of Oakes and Mr. Ackert shared in directing the var- ious selections. Two intensive practice periods were held one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
