As school started late and there were many absences the band was slow in getting under way. As there were no home football games at a suitable time the band did not have a chance to perform at any games. Rehearsals, however, went on as usual and preparations were made for a pre-Christ- mas concert. Mr. Sheppard was due to leave for the army signal corps shortly after Christ- mas and it was decided that the band should stage a concert before he left. The concert was held on Tuesday, December 15, when, assisted by the girls ' glee club, the following program was given : America arr. Carey Wings of the Army King Down in the Forest (Overture) Jarrett Liberty Fleet King Caissons Go Rolling Along „ Gruber Selections - Girls’ Glee Club Iron Count King God Bless America Berlin Cherry Waltz... Parnell United Nations King Star Spangled Banner arr. Smith Since Christmas the band has been directed by Rev. K. O. Lee. Under his direction the group prepared music for basketball games and did an excellent job of pepping up players and spectators with lively marches. To bring the basketball season to an end, the band and twirlers went to Edgeley to the sub-district tournament where their services were much appreciated. Due to the war, the traditional band festi- val, which would have been held in Ellendale this year, had to be cancelled. However, a joint concert was arranged with Oakes which somewhat made up for the festival. This pro- gram was held May 7 with the following pro- gram : Joint Band Concert America arr.
