DeYapp. SPEECH AND Speech and dramatic work, under the direc- tion of Miss Minnie Onsrud, began early last fall with the senior girls ' speech night and ended with the senior play on April 8. Miss Margaret Williams, Miss Josephine Wyckoff, and Miss Martha Buck assisted with make-up, staging, and music, respectively. Senior Girls ' Speech Program This program was held on Thursday eve- ning, November 5, in the high school audito- rium, and was under the direction of Miss Minnie Onsrud. Miss Eleanor Gessner coached a one-act play. C. Bunner), The Unexpected (Will J. Lampton) Dorothy Strand Negro Dialect — Hymn (Paul Lawrence Dunbar), Encouragement (Dunbar) Avis Naze One-Act Play — Meet the Countess (Jessie M. Bowler) Dorothy Strand, Lynette Mattheis, Avis Naze, Ruth Beecher, Norma Johnson, and Mu- riel Carlson DRAMATICS Junior Class Play A rollicking comedy of youth, pathos and laughter, “Almost Eighteen” was given Janu- ary 28, at the high school gymnasium by the junior class of Ellendale high school. Included in the cast of characters were: William Barry, Eddie’s dad Billy Randall Grace Barry, his mother Louise Strand Beatrice, his daughter Judith Gessner Mabel Warren, a music teacher. .Phyllis Christensen Mrs. Granville of the Women’s Club Beverly Ortner Eddie, almost eighteen Robert Coleman George, who has a philosophy Keith Sehnert Ann, Eddie’s ideal Virginia Reukauf Tommy, a friend of Eddie’s Francis Gibson Sally, one of the crowd Dorothy Schmidt Miss Dalrymple, also a club woman Phyllis Johnson Mr. Merritt, a professor Arthur Cook Senior Class Play On April 8, the seniors presented “Victory Home” by Dana Thomas. The play was an up- to-the-minute comedy of America at war filled with mirthful situations, today’s problems, and today’s challenges. The following cast efficiently filled their roles : Charles Hargrove, an American father Victor Strand Edith Hargrove, Hargrove’s wife who boasts of a Mayflower lineage Ruth Beecher Pauline, the youngest in the family.
