Ellendale presented a panel discussion given by Robert Anderson, Alvin Marvick, Robert McMillan, and Kenneth Isaak. H. S. Henry) — Patty Goddard Irish Dialect — Wee Hughie (Shane), In Service (Letts) — Marian Durheim Italian Dialect — Mia Carlotta (Daly) — Kenneth Isaak Negro Dialect — A Coquette Conquered (Dunbar) — Joyce Evans PLAY FESTIVAL Ellendale high school presented “Lucky Lucy” in the one-act play festival held at Oakes April 10. “Lucky Lucy” was also the carnival play. Alvin Marvick took Alden Johnson’s role. The critic was Mrs. Ingvalson. CHORAL READING Under the direction of Miss Minnie Onsrud, 27 girls and boys took part in a choral reading pro- gram. The high school has not presented such an activity for several years. DRAMATICS AND SPEECH Under the direction of Miss Minnie Onsrud and Miss June Probstfield the speech and dramatic work began early last fall with the senior girls’ speech program on October 22 and culminated with the senior play on SENIOR GIRLS’ SPEECH PROGRAM This program was held Wednesday evening, Octo- ber 22, in the high school auditorium and was di- rected by Miss Probstfield. Arms for the Love of America — a vocal solo by Inga Martin, accompanied by Ilene Fuller. The Bardess of Peopod County — Florence Grenz. A piano duet — Ilene Fuller and Ruby Sprouse. Alice’s Blue Gown — one-act play — Virginia Mat- theis, Gladys Wahl, Lois Coleman, Ilene Fuller, Hilda Quashnick, Edna Klipfel, Ruth Ofstedal and Doris Gee. My Sister’s Best Feller — Ruby Beaver. San Antonio Rose — duet — Alice Klein and Vir- ginia Mattheis accompanied by Ruby Sprouse. Hitchhikin’ Ain’t No Fun — Maralyn Bowerman and Eva King. Three Maids and a Man — one-act play — Gertrude Fey, Virginia Whelan and Ethel Johnson. Two Debussy compositions — Golliwogg’s Cake Walk; Clair de Lune — Pat Goddard. This play concerns a 16-year-old girl who gets involved in a subversive plot to blow up a munitions plant. High School Band MUSIC CHORAL MUSIC The mixed chorus and glee clubs carried forward in both senior and junior high school with increased appreciation of this fine art. The boys and girls glee clubs were organized in the fall. The mixed chorus was organized at the beginning of the second semester. Under the capable direction of Miss Martha Buck, we were able to put on programs for various occa- sions. The boys and girls glee clubs combined and separate have given several programs throughout the year. At Christmas the glee clubs and mixed chorus together with the upper and intermediate grade choruses presented a program of Christmas music. Instead of the usual reading of the scrip- ture, a group of girls presented a choral reading of the Christmas Story. Accompanists for the program were Patricia Goddard, Ilene Fuller, and Gladys Schmidt. Direc- tors were Miss Martha Buck and Miss Ardice Tran- by. Miss Onsrud had charge of the Choral Reading. The decorations were taken care of by Miss Mar- garet Williams and Mr. Floyd Ackert. CHORAL FESTIVAL The Dickey-LaMoure Choral Festival was held in Edgeley, May 8. Mr. Hywell C. Roland, for the tenth consecutive year, directed the massed chorus com- posed of glee clubs and choruses from Edgeley, Oakes, LaMoure, and Ellendale.
