THE MICROPHONE Published under the direction of the officers of the Senior Class, May 5, 1942. Clarence Neumann President Boyd Blumer... Vice President Raymond Ofstedal Secretary-Treasurer E. C. Ingvalson Advisor For the eighth consecutive year the senior class of Ellendale High School is publishing the Micro- phone. It brings to the attention of parents and patrons some of the many activities of the school. For students and particularly for the seniors it serves as a medium of recounting and preserving many of the happy and meaningful events with which their school life is crowded. BOARD OF EDUCATION A. Onsrud Principal, Ellendale High School Conferring of Diplomas A. R. Amphlett President, Board of Education America All DEDICATION To our classmate, Alden G. Johnson, we, the senior class of 1942, dedicate this issue of the Micro- phone. IN MEMORIAM Alden Gerald Johnson came to Ellendale in 1939 entering high school as a Sophomore. For three years he took an active part in school activities. He played trombone in the band for three years and in the orchestra during his senior year. During his last year “Johnny’’ was also senior athletic man- ager and served as vice president of the Hi-Y the first semester. He was called on March 10, 1942, after an illness of only two days. A good sport and a true friend he will always have a place in our hearts. o In Retrospect We, the seniors of ’42 can look back on our four years of high school as years full of work and fun. We have lived and we have learned. Our freshman year will be long remembered. We learned the rules of the school and the spirit of the high school was instilled in us. Many new mem- bers joined our ranks from the country and neigh- boring towns. These new members have become our classmates and friends. As sophomores we were looked down upon by the juniors and seniors. After taking the punishments of initiation, we soon became a part of senior high. In our sophomore year we began to understand and really appreciate high school. In our junior year our studies were more strenu- ous and we applied ourselves more seriously to our work. The prom and banquet were the highlights of the year. We were no longer children; we had learned how to do real work. As seniors we are grateful for the educational privileges and the conscientious help of the teach- ers. We are the largest senior class to graduate and several of us have been together since the first grade. Though we are anxious to graduate, it will be with sadness that we will part from the high school where some of our happiest days have been spent. 1942 Ellendale High School Annual - Coleman Museum 2017
