Orlando Lee Pastor, Ellendale Methodist Church Hymn — “Faith of Our Fathers” Benediction MUSIC (Concluded from page 8) TWIRLERS Very much in evidence at football and basket- ball games as well as other occasions has been the high school twirling team. This group has done much to add “zip” and color to our athletic events. Members of the senior group are Lois Merrick, Maralyn Bowerman, Ethel Johnson, Phyllis Johnson, Dorothy Schmidt, Luella Hokana and Shirley Neer. Coming up from the junior high school is a group of twirlers many of whom we will see much more of next year. They are the following: Sylvia Hollan, Janie Duncan, Shirley Voegeli, Aloh a Jensen, Iona Kuch, Delores Green, Amaralys Ehlers, Lillian Ben- derwald and Ruth Senecal. MUSIC AWARDS The band pin, a new award in E. H. S., was pre- sented to the following seniors at the annual band banquet held on April 23: Ivan Benderwald, Lois Coleman, Eunice DuRand, Ilene Fuller, Doris Gee, Kenneth Isaak and Inga Martin. The music lyre a felt award, for achievement in chorus and glee club was awarded to Owen Amphlett, Lois Coleman, Charles Fleming, Doris Gee, Ger- trude Fey, Kenneth Hess, Alice Klein, Eddie Kuch, Laurence Mellang, Raymond Ofstedal, Avis Naze, Ruby Sprouse, Martin Steinwand and Victor Strand. Seniors to earn this award in their junior year were Robert Anderson, Boyd Blumer, Ilene Fuller, Patri- cia Goddard, Milton Harm, Eva Mae King, Inga Martin, Lois Merrick and Reuben Roehl. The Hi-Y Club The Hi-Y is an organization for older high school boys and is affiliated with the Young Men’s Chris- tian Association. The purpose of the club as stated in its constitution is: To create, maintain and ex- tend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character. At the first meeting officers were elected as fol- lows: President, Kenneth Isaak; vice president, Alden Johnson; secretary-treasurer, Robert McMil- lan; Sergeant-at-arms, Reuben Roehl. Voted in as new members were Robert Anderson, Calvin Mattheis, Martin Steinwand, Delvin Zinter, Orrin Morrow, Charles Fleming and Ernest King. New officers were elected for the second semes- ter. These were as follows: Robert Anderson, presi- dent; Raymond Ofstedal, vice president; Owen Amphlett, secretary-treasurer and Ralph Griffin, Sergeant-at-arms. During the year the club had many interesting meetings. Some of the meetings featured discussions on topics related to boys’ interests and for other meetings speakers were provided. On April 12 about 15 of the members went to Aberdeen as guests of the Aberdeen Club. DRAMATICS AND SPEECH (Concluded from page 6) MASONIC ORATORICAL CONTEST Inga Martin and Kenneth Hess of Ellendale high school delivered orations at the Masonic Temple in an oratorical contest sponsored by the local Masonic chapter. The subject of their orations was North Dakota — Reasons for My Faith in Our State. Inga and Kenneth also attended the regional con- test held in Jamestown, April 17. Inga placed second in this contest. ESSAY CONTEST The juniors and seniors of Ellendale high school took part in the essay contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The subject was Char- acteristics of a Good American. Maralyn Bowerman was given first place. Inga Martin and Ethel John- son were awarded second and third places respec- tively.
