Its mem- bers consist of Juniors and Seniors who have maintained an average of 85 or better throughout their high school grades. The National Honor Society elects officers and installs new members twice a .year. 7 e Tfatioiutl Society CO Student ( cuncti The members of Student Council are among the best students in school. They are chosen for their leadership ability by their fellow students. The Student Council is a governing body. It regulates money-making activities, handles athletic events, awards school letters and scholarships, monitors fire drills and assemblies, selects cheerleaders as well as many other minor duties. The functions of this club are to enable students to learn library procedures and techniques, to provide op- portunity for vocational exploration by practice in library service, to popularize reading among all students, and to enjoy varied group reading experiences. Duties are desk work, processing new books, repairing books, shelving books, reading shelves, and bulletin boards and displays. Setti i z td punivi The Ellenburg Times” is published by the Press Club. Our aim is to teach students the practices of journal- ism. This is accomplished by the acquiring of articles of school news which are then set up on the press dummy. Students are given a responsibility by having to get their assignments in at a deadline. Each must sell an advertise ment for the paper. A committee is organized for the selling of subscriptions. On our staff we have an editor, a business manager, feature writers, sports writers, circulation manager, and reporters. For the past ten years the Ellenburg Press Club has been a member of the Empire State School Press Associa- tion. GO 7ee t-s4$e (?lu The Book Club meets once a week. The primary purpose is to create a desire for good reading and help pupils to select books intelligently. The club enables the pupils to buy each month a wide range of good paper bound books especially selected for teenagers. The members of Projectionist Club learn to operate and service the school projector. After training they show movies for their class. 'PiajectuMiat GO zc£el yi (£lu The Bachelors' Club membership is made up of boys in grades nine through twelve. The purpose of the club is simple - cooking and eating for fun. The group uses every other meeting as a planning session to decide on food to be prepared at the next meeting and to plan jobs to be done by each member. At the end of the year the boys have a chance to show off their culinary skills at the picnic. This picnic is for members and guests. Expenses are met by weekly dues. S 0WCcC4tC BOYS' CHORUS JUNIOR at S- S. The primary purpose is to foster the sport of archery and bow hunting in the school. We attempt to make bows and arrows and other articles of archery equipment and to learn skills of shooting in the archery range. CO 4 61 cutd The purpose of this club is to give its members a chance to make things such as baskets, jewelry, leather projects and etc., which they might not be able to do in their regular shop classes. Each member picks his own project and works with as little supervision as possible. Girls, as well as boys, are members and because of ex- panding membership it now meets twice a week in order that more may belong. Some very interesting, inexpen- sive, and practical projects are completed each year. Arts and Crafts Club only started last year, but it is fast becoming one of the larger clubs. The objective of this club is to provide athletic competition for high school girls, and to give them an op- portunity to participate in sports activities not covered in the regular physical education classes. CO The objective of this club is to provide individual and team competition in all major sports for boys who are unable to make varsity sports. Boys in the seventh and eighth grades are given a chance to compete against boys of their own ages from other schools. (2ld CO 77tec6 z Uc This newly organized club teaches girls to use household tools for simple repain of home appliances and gadgets. The projects they will make through the year will allow them a chance to use these tools and they will gain a greater knowledge of the importance of home repairs done by themselves. Thus, this club opens up a whole new field for girls which will prove very useful in later years. The purpose of this club is to help a girl put her best foot forward. The aim is to help girls become aware of personal appearance problems and to discover ways of minimizing these. A variety of resources is used-films, recent books, pamphlets, and penons in the community. This club is organized for students in Junior High School. It gives each member an opportunity to carry on a project, take part in conducting business meetings, and an overnight camping trip in the Spring. Members of the Agricultural Department are organized into a club called the Future Farmers. This is affiliated with the state and national organizations which sponsor local, state, and national contests. Through its meeting it teaches the group how to work together for a common purpose. Most successful 4-H clubs are community centered, the school provides the opportunity for those boys and , girls who do not have access to a local club or organization. The Golden Star 4-H Club carries out the activities of a regular 4-H club. CO Scc -0 e The object of our club is to make ourselves as attractive as we can. Our meetings are devoted to personality development, how to wear our hair and clothes, how to behave on dates, and how to get along with families and friends.
