tm es but before I realxzed xt I had practtcally bought one w1th dual jets so I dec1ded to leave before I commnted myself From there I xx ent to Prmevllle where I planned on spend1ng the night wlth Mr and Mrs Loule Martmn the former Eleanor Btnder and thelr nlne chxldren I arrlved ln Prmevllle about ewht o clock and went to the Martln Ranch where I was gwen a rouslng welcome by Mr and Mrs Martm and the1r n1ne lmttle Martms They practlc lly had me hoo tled ard branded by the t1me I cot mnsmde the ranchhouse They were soon put to bed md I..ou1e Eleanor and I spent a very enjoyable evenlng together The next mormno I left early and headed back to Elkton hop1ng to see Mr Grlmsrud who was our class advlsor m our Sophomore and Semor years mn hmgh school Upon arrwlng mn Elkton I learned that Coach was down at the hxgh school workmg out w1th h1s all dauohter star volleyball team I watched them for a whlle and then talked to Mr Grlmsrud He stmll was loadmo terms onto the classes of E I-I S but the students were workmg out a form of mental telepathy wh1ch was mtroduced by that famous stat1st1c1an Doctor Lmvmgstone I presume wh1ch made xt pretty hard to g1ve tests After an hour's v1s1t I went to Brookmos to see John Beckley head coach at Brookmgs Hlgh School for glrls John was ln h1s glory there He was marr1ed to the commerc1al teacher I should have known better but I dec1ded to attend one of h1s classes The g1rls were now dommatmg the basket ball cene John's star player was a burly slx footer She really seemed to enjoy playmg on John s team S1nce I had seen all my frlends ln Oregon I set out to v1s1t Ken Agee now a famous sono wr1ter and leader of the world s largest western ba nd It took me all day to get to Los Angeles so I dec1ded to stay at the Statler Hotel there That mght I went to the Cocoanut Grove where Ken was currently appearmg wxth h1s band He played many old favor1tes of mme such as Im Just a Full Tmme Slob and one that he had wr1tten hlmself The Second Bar on the Rmght After the fmrst show he came over and talked to me I secured hms auto Graph and went back to the hotel It was a rehef to get some rest after such a busy day Smce all my classmates now resxded further east I dec1ded to take one last look at the wood old U S A wh1le I was travehng I started northeast and mto Colorado where I plan ned on seelnrr Mary Allce Spencer the former Mary Allce Bunch She and her husband owned a sheep ranch about th1rty m1les east of Denver Her husband wasn t there when I arrlved and she was havmw qulte a txme Someone had left the gate open and the sheep were all over he road She was trymg to cet them back where they belonged She was begmmng to lose her temper Fmally she got them back 1n and turned her attentlon to me She told me that she was domo pretty well what wxth her vetermarlan work and the ranch We talked a whxle and then I had to be on my way On I went through Kansas Mxssourl Ilhnols Indlana Ohlo Pennsylvanla and f1nally rrlved m New Yvrk Crty In a few mmutes there was a sound of slrens and crowds of cheer mf people It was Betty Gossel w1th her pol1ce escort There were the autograph fans w1th themr penc1ls and plpers They were after Betty's autograph She was a very popular model She worked for Barry Bloom owner of the C B Bloom Model Agency Wxth her was some one 1n a orey su1t Everyt1me one of those fanattcal fans trxed for a souvemr she bopped hmm and yelled Y I Iankee Dov' I floured It must be Sandy Baker Sure enough Sandy was a very famous cartoomst noted for her comlc strip L1 l Rebel Headlng the l1ne of poltce men was Dav1d ncott a New York State cop Just at that moment a man ran a red hght and almost hlt a woman crossmg the street Dave took out after h1m so fast that he tore up two block of trolley tracks Sandy told me that a group of teachers and pr1nc1pals were trylng to h lve her removed from the staff of the New York Tlmes because they though she was corrunttnfv the mmds of httle chmldren' However each tmme she was f1red she was re hmrcd bec1use of her 1mmense popularlty She had the younger generatlon bellevelno that the South had actually won the C1v1l War to the d1smay of all hlstory teachers She llved a rather hccuc lmfe but seemed to enjoy 1t Betty took me to the C B Bloom Model Agency to see B rry l-le was re llly surpmsed to see me l-le gumded me throuoh hls show rooms and also tmok me tothe offmces of Pete Inman Vtce Presxdent of the firm Janltor m h1s spare t1me l llso c rr nd b y Petr. h ld as food a phy xque as ever and had even been chosen Mr 15 1 ' , Q .
