Semor Class Prophecy January 1 1965 l Grace Scrtbner bemw of sound mmnd do hereby declare th1s to be by legal author :ty my last and fxnal wtll and testament I hereby name as my beneftctarxes my classmates who graduated from Elkton I-hgh School ln 1953 They wlll share my estate They are here by requested to meet tn New Mexlco at the Seemore Observatory near the spaceport bu1lt by myself before my successful flrst tnter spactal expedttton I want all of you to know how much I enjoyed my v1s1ts to you two years ago When left to v1s1t my frlends IH Elkton Oregon I ltttle expected to see so many of my old class mates st1lll1v1ng near there Elkton now a thr1v1ng c1ty of 50 OOO people was a very fertlle ground for Mlss Marlana Jones marr1age broker to set up shop Out front there was a btg smgn that read If1x It up you tear 1t down I went 1ns1de and before she had recogmzed me she had a marrlage l1cense ftlled out and wa try1ng to get my two dollars She had even taken over the long deserted dance hall tn Whoop and Holler Valley and made It world famous She was as gemal as ever and told me about some of her greatest matches one bemg the mar r1age of Davxd Scott now a New York State pohceman noted for h1s safe and sane dr1v1ng to a wealthy young woman the only surv1v1ng he1r of the world's r1che st man Scrooge P Plnchpenny a bottle cap manufacturer The marrlage was hlghly successful and ln l963 Davtd the proud father of flve gtrls and f1ve boys was named Father of the Year After vtsltmg w1th Marlana I left for Oakland Oregon where I would see Donna Kobbe the former Donna Madlson Yes Donna was marrxed rtght after graduatxon back ln '53 and was now ratslng a famlly of three boys and one g1rl She and Kenneth hved on a large ranch near Oakland where she spent her lelsure tlme worklng on new methods for extermlnatmg rodents She had been pretty successful ln thls wlde open professlonal fleld She mentloned seetng Julte the week before so I declded to v1s1t her at her home near Woodburn where she LS home econom1cs mstructor tn the Boys Detent1on Home .Iul1e revealed to me that she had been secretly engaged to a man Ln New Zealand for seven years and was gotng to brtng htm 1nto the country as a male war brxde next month They were golng to l1ve ln Terrebonne near the Deschutes Rxver and ralse rac1ng turtles On I went to vxslt Ronme Henderer or Arthur the Second successor of Arthur Murray the famous danctng lnstructor H15 slogan was Learn to Dance ln One Easy Lesson' He offered me a free course but I turned mt down as I was rather pressed for tlme Itherefore declded to leave for Bremerton Washmgton where I planned on v1s1t1ng the presldent of the Internat1onal Ltars Club the one and only Larry Emel However I dtscovered my Jetmoblle needed a repalr Job badly so I took tt to the nearest repamr shop and went to spend the afternoon at a matmee Upon arrlvlng at the Paramount Theatre I dlscovered that a famous s1nger was ap pearmg tn person Bemg a lover of mus1c I dectded to see the program so I bought a tlcket for the front row and went m and sat down About ftve mmutes later the curtam went up and I recelved the surprxse of my llfe On stage was none other than my old pal Josephme Mulkey The mustc began wtth an arta from a famous opera but suddenly Chqnged to a popular ballad Let's Make Moonshtne ln the Moonshtne Tomght Needless to say I enjoyed the performance tmmensely Afterward I went backstage and vtslted W1 h .Io I learned that she was the smger respons1ble for the uproar whtch shook Carnagle Hall four years ago when a very reputable opera smger suddenly broke lnto an Okxe song She also mformed me that she was leavmg for Afr1ca the next day to pursue her pet hobby beetle trappmg I bld her adleu and went back to the repatr shop where I d left my Jetmoblle only to fmd that they dtdn t know how to f1x lt I rolled up my sleeves and went to work In flfteen mlnutes tt was ftxed and I was ftnally on my way to Bremerton I arrtved there an hour later and went to the Emel resldence where I was greeted Larry s w1fe and two small chxldren who chattered mcessantly I could see or rather hear that they took after thelr father A few mlnutes later Larry walked IH and began glvtnfv nie a sales talk on Chevrolet plckups I could see he hadn't changed a bit We talked over old 14 O 1 1 1 1 D - 1 1 ' 1 - - Q 1 c . . In themr Semor ye r at Elkton I-hgh School Josephtne Mulkey rejotned them Eleanor Btnder IXI artxn and Larry Emel moved away durtno the last seme ster leavxnf fourteen Senxors tn thetr oraduattno class The offtcers were Donna M tdtson PYCS1dCDt Pete Inman Vtce Prestdent Sandy Baker Secretary John Beckley Treasurer Mr Grlmsrud was agatn thetr class advtsor Grace Scrtbner was carmval prtncess and queen wtth Pete Inman as her escort Ne trly all of the members of the class were actmve tn sports and made letters tn them Senlor Sneak The Sentor Class of 1953 started on that annual occaston the Sentor sneak M arch 77 1953 In the mornmg before daylwht they were to meet tn front of Rxndalls tn Elkton about 5 30 Ftnally everyone made tt by about 4 30 wtth Mr Grtmsrud the la t one there We started Oelt and our f1rst ston was Newport where we had chartered ftshtno boat for deep sea I1 h1nU Due to the we ather we were unable to Oo ftshtno but we were taken for a half hour r1de out over the bar We also had breakfast at Newport then left for Depoe Bay where we went throug h tn aquartum of all ktnds of sea antmals seals sea llons sea anemones ftsh and an octopus Our next stop w IS Ttllamook where we went through a large cheese factory on 1 nutded tour After our tour we had lunch at a drxve tn tn Ttllamook and were on our way to Portland on I-Itghway 6 We went through the Ttllomook Burn thounh not pretty anymore tt was a stght to see We arrtved 1n Portland and went to Mtlwaukee where we found the motel we were gotng to stay 1n that ntght It was Maynard s TV Motel whtch has Telev1s1on 1n some of the rooms After resttng from rmdlng we changed our clothes and took off for the Shrlne Cmrcus at the Ice Arent tn down town Portland It was a good show and Jerry Colonna was Master of Ceremontes The boys were hungry agatn as usual so we went to the Oyster I-lou e and had a sea food dtnner before gotng back to the motel Everyone was to settle down and oo to bed but dtdn t 'ttll after televtston went off at one o clock We awoke around 8 o clock and checked out of our motel to go and eat breal fast We found an Ital1an restaurant tn Portland and had breakfast there We then went through Lambert Gardens and rode through the Reed College campus Then we were headed to Salem the state capttal to eat lunch and for the boys ro im around The glrls and the chaperones though went through the capttol butldtnw and sat tn on the Senate where they were passtng b1lls The glrls cltmbed to the top of the dome of the capttol butldtng and took ptctures Then the g1rls rode out to the state penttenttary and the warden there wouldn t let us go through much to our dtsltke We went shopptnc back at Salem unttl ftve when we were to meet the boys tn the Hotel Senator We then he tded for Eugene to take tn a show We couldnt aoree on whtch one to no to so they all went to dmfferent shows throuohout Broadway tn Eugene We stayed to eat together at a c feterla style restaurant tn Eugene before gotno home. tm es but before I realxzed xt I had practtcally bought one w1th dual jets so I dec1ded to leave before I commnted myself From there I xx ent to Prmevllle where I planned on spend1ng the night wlth Mr and Mrs Loule Martmn the former Eleanor Btnder and thelr nlne chxldren I arrlved ln Prmevllle about ewht o clock and went to the Martln Ranch where I was gwen a rouslng welcome by Mr and Mrs Martm and the1r n1ne lmttle Martms They practlc lly had me hoo tled ard branded by the t1me I cot mnsmde the ranchhouse They were soon put to bed md I..ou1e Eleanor and I spent a very enjoyable evenlng together The next mormno I left early and headed back to Elkton hop1ng to see Mr Grlmsrud who was our class advlsor m our Sophomore and Semor years mn hmgh school Upon arrwlng mn Elkton I learned that Coach was down at the hxgh school workmg out w1th h1s all dauohter star volleyball team I watched them for a whlle and then talked to Mr Grlmsrud He stmll was loadmo terms onto the classes of E I-I S but the students were workmg out a form of mental telepathy wh1ch was mtroduced by that famous stat1st1c1an Doctor Lmvmgstone I presume wh1ch made xt pretty hard to g1ve tests After an hour's v1s1t I went to Brookmos to see John Beckley head coach at Brookmgs Hlgh School for glrls John was ln h1s glory there He was marr1ed to the commerc1al teacher I should have known better but I dec1ded to attend one of h1s classes The g1rls were now dommatmg the basket ball cene John's star player was a burly slx footer She really seemed to enjoy playmg on John s team S1nce I had seen all my frlends ln Oregon I set out to v1s1t Ken Agee now a famous sono wr1ter and leader of the world s largest western ba nd It took me all day to get to Los Angeles so I dec1ded to stay at the Statler Hotel there That mght I went to the Cocoanut Grove where Ken was currently appearmg wxth h1s band He played many old favor1tes of mme such as Im Just a Full Tmme Slob and one that he had wr1tten hlmself The Second Bar on the Rmght After the fmrst show he came over and talked to me I secured hms auto Graph and went back to the hotel It was a rehef to get some rest after such a busy day Smce all my classmates now resxded further east I dec1ded to take one last look at the wood old U S A wh1le I was travehng I started northeast and mto Colorado where I plan ned on seelnrr Mary Allce Spencer the former Mary Allce Bunch She and her husband owned a sheep ranch about th1rty m1les east of Denver Her husband wasn t there when I arrlved and she was havmw qulte a txme Someone had left the gate open and the sheep were all over he road She was trymg to cet them back where they belonged She was begmmng to lose her temper Fmally she got them back 1n and turned her attentlon to me She told me that she was domo pretty well what wxth her vetermarlan work and the ranch We talked a whxle and then I had to be on my way On I went through Kansas Mxssourl Ilhnols Indlana Ohlo Pennsylvanla and f1nally rrlved m New Yvrk Crty In a few mmutes there was a sound of slrens and crowds of cheer mf people It was Betty Gossel w1th her pol1ce escort There were the autograph fans w1th themr penc1ls and plpers They were after Betty's autograph She was a very popular model She worked for Barry Bloom owner of the C B Bloom Model Agency Wxth her was some one 1n a orey su1t Everyt1me one of those fanattcal fans trxed for a souvemr she bopped hmm and yelled Y I Iankee Dov' I floured It must be Sandy Baker Sure enough Sandy was a very famous cartoomst noted for her comlc strip L1 l Rebel Headlng the l1ne of poltce men was Dav1d ncott a New York State cop Just at that moment a man ran a red hght and almost hlt a woman crossmg the street Dave took out after h1m so fast that he tore up two block of trolley tracks Sandy told me that a group of teachers and pr1nc1pals were trylng to h lve her removed from the staff of the New York Tlmes because they though she was corrunttnfv the mmds of httle chmldren' However each tmme she was f1red she was re hmrcd bec1use of her 1mmense popularlty She had the younger generatlon bellevelno that the South had actually won the C1v1l War to the d1smay of all hlstory teachers She llved a rather hccuc lmfe but seemed to enjoy 1t Betty took me to the C B Bloom Model Agency to see B rry l-le was re llly surpmsed to see me l-le gumded me throuoh hls show rooms and also tmok me tothe offmces of Pete Inman Vtce Presxdent of the firm Janltor m h1s spare t1me l llso c rr nd b y Petr. h ld as food a phy xque as ever and had even been chosen Mr 15 1 ' , Q .
