B TEAM ENDS SEASON WITH 12-8 RECORD Clustering around the Coach for time out instructions are left to right: Allen Henningsen. Steve Leech, Colby Tolk and Steve Lytle. The 1985-86 junior varsity team finished their season on a positive note winning the last six ballgames. That enabled them to complete their season with a 12-8 record. Coach Field had these comments about the team, I think the biggest obstacle we had to overcome was the lack of leadership. Most of the kids we had playing were good ballplayers. They and a lot of abili- ty but had never been responsible to carry the load, so to speak. They always had other players to do that for them. You have to have a leader out on the floor, someone to make the big play in tight situations. Early in the year we didn't have that. In fact, at one point in the season, right after the Clear Lake game, we had lost 3 of the 4 games that were decided by 5 points or less.’ Those types of loses can really hurt you down the road. To be a champion you have to be able to win these kinds of games consistently. We had a very emotional talk after that Clear Lake game. We talked about the leadership and also the importance of every possession of the ball. The ability put teams away when the op- portunity exists whether it be early or late in the game also was mentioned. The talk must have done some good. The leaders stepped forward from then on. Allen Henningen and Brian Kramer started to really come on. Other players also showed signs of leadership. We went on to win the next four games that were divided by the same point spread mentioned earlier. This lead- ership and dedication by these individuals may be the boost the Elks need to win that long awaited State championship. Back row: Student Managers and Statisticians Chris Buus, Jeff Salzman, and Patsy McClemans; Andre Adams, Cheerleaders: JoAnn Brodersen, Amy Fuhr, Jeanette Gebhart, Irene Gebhart, Coach Field. Middle row: Nick Wittfoth, Bret Louder, an Jennifer Bauer. 20 Brian Kramer and Allen Henningsen. Front row: Doug Wiskur, Colby Tolk, Tron Even, and Jeff Dobesh.
