JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS' BASKETBALL Front row: Nicole Sherman, Michele Cohen, Michele Gilbertson, Stacey Wiskur, Sharon Lamb, Valerie Montgomery, Cari Hemman. Back row: Coach DeBoer, Angel Vincent, Nancy Gebhart, Jennifer Landsman, Michelle Myers, Tina Knutson, Karla Motter, Michelle Reeves. This season was a very educational and fun experience for the seventh and eighth grade girls. We had a shortage of eighth graders on the team, but it was overshadowed by our abundance of enthusiasm. The girls played with extreme dedication and desire. We all gained lots of valuable experience and saw the areas we need to work to improve. This was a great group of athletes to work with. They have a great desire to work hard and to be their best. I think they have a very bright future ahead of them. 11

COACH VINCENT'S COMMENTS. . . Cross Country Girls 1986 The Elkton Girls Cross Country team moved closer to the goals they set a year ago. They want to become the best in the state, with a young team (no Juniors or Seniors). This team became Conference Champions for the second consecutive year and then one week later, became the Champions of Region 1-B. The team then went on to finish fifth in the state. Finishing fifth in the state was a great accomplish- ment. We have a young team with super individuals. Jennifer Bauer became a great team leader and along with Amy Fuhr and Michelle Gilbertson, the trio be- came a team of championship-minded people. This team had others who also really came on and added to this year's strength. Patty Davis keeps improving and at times was our third runner. Also Tina Knutson and Irene Gebhart gave us the strength to compete in any size meet. If this group can keep the dream alive I really feel they are destined to become State Champi- ons!! Cross Country Boys 1986 This year the Elkton Boys Cross Country team had many things to prepare for and a short time to do them. Elkton had only one established runner from last years team. This was David Fuhr and once again he led the way for the Elkton team. But, the Elks needed someone to run with David. It didn't take long as Steve Lytle came on with his best year as a runner. Elkton also needed the third runner and by Confer- ence time. Bob Lynn filled that role. Along with Ted Smallfield and Jeff Dobesh, the team won the Confer- ence, finished second in the Region and eleventh in the State. I am proud to have coached this group of athletes. We wanted to win the Conference because it would make for ten consecutive years Elkton teams have won. These kids ran with a lot of heart to accomplish this. They were also able to qualify for the state and im- prove last year’s finish. In what was a slow start turned into a championship year. We had people come through at the times we needed it the most. REGION CHAMPS Regional champions proudly display their plaque. Front row: Tina Knutson and Michelle Gilbertson Back row: Amy Fuhr.
