HOMECOMING, 1985 Homecoming 1985 was a very memorable one. We were playing the number three ranked team in the state, the Castlewood Warriors. I'm sure they came into the contest somewhat overlooking us. The game was a good one. They led at half time 8-6 and came out in the third quarter and scored twice early. 1 can remember looking back and seeing cars leaving, people thinking the game was over. They scored once more, making the score 26-6 early in the fourth quarter. We began to score. Bearing failure, a kick attempt was tried with a little over a minute to go. We could have very easily won the game. The final score was 21-26. What happened at the final gun was really something. As the Castlewood players walked off the field with their heads to the ground, our players and fans huddled at mid-field for a break on Elk Pride. In their hearts we won that football game. To this day I can never remember another time that after losing a game, I felt as if we had really won. 6 By Coach Jef Field
