Five girls qualified to participate in the State Meet. They were: Darla Walters, 440 Relay-low hurdles- medley relay; Dorothy Gebhart, mile run-medley relay; Lisa Bauer, 440 yd. dash-medley relay-440 re- lay; Shelly Jensen, 440 relay; Janii Hegerfeld, Medley relay-440 relay. STATE MEET RESULTS 3200 M Relay-1st-Leonard, Chuck, Ervin, Everett 800 M Relay- Ist-Brad, Leonard, Ervin Everett Sprint Medley-lst-Brad, Jeff, Ervin, Everett 1600 M Relay-lst-Brad, Leonard, Ervin, Everett 3200 M Run-4th-Chuck 1600 M Run-4th-Chuck 400 M Dash-7th-Brad 800 M Run-10th-Leonard Winning the State Meet was most exciting and something that this team will never forget. Leonard and Jeff as under- classmen gave an outstanding performance in helping Elkton win. Our seniors, Ervin-Everett-Brad-Chuck, deserve special mention. These four were our leaders. They set their goals. They trained to meet their goals, and they accomplished what they set out to do. Chuck became one of the States' best distance runners, Brad the best lead-off runner in the Sprint, 800, and 1600 Relays and Ervin and Everett the best anchor runners in all 4 relays. They led Elkton to the State Championship. They always gave, every thing they had. Even when they had nothing left to give. And they were rewarded for it. Dedication paid off and they deserve to be NO. 1!!! 28
