COACHES COMMENTS From left: Leonard Gebhart, Everett Gebhart, Coach Terry Vincent, Chuck Lorden, and Ervin Gebhart receive the 2nd place state trophy at Brookings. I am very proud of each ath- lete (boy or girl) that took part in this years' Cross Country program. This years' seniors have accomplished very much in their years in Cross Country: 4th place in State 1977, 1st place in State 1978, and 2nd place in State 1979. I really appreciate the dedication they have given. The younger members of the team have shown the same dedication and desire that will make them champi- ons in the future. I also ap- preciate the girls that gave of themselves and could dedi- cate what time they had to keep the girls' program go- ing. I know it was difficult for them and I give them all the credit. They were the reason we were able to keep the girls' program alive with an opportunity to reach new goals in the future. From left: Lisa Bauer, Kristi Jensen, , and Dorothy Gebhart were the three girls who participated in the Cross Country program this year. Although the girls did not run in very many races, they did represent the school very nicely. Leonard and Jeff as under- classmen gave an outstanding performance in helping Elkton win. Our seniors, Ervin-Everett-Brad-Chuck, deserve special mention. These four were our leaders. They set their goals. They trained to meet their goals, and they accomplished what they set out to do. Chuck became one of the States' best distance runners, Brad the best lead-off runner in the Sprint, 800, and 1600 Relays and Ervin and Everett the best anchor runners in all 4 relays. They led Elkton to the State Championship. They always gave, every thing they had. Even when they had nothing left to give. And they were rewarded for it. Dedication paid off and they deserve to be NO. 1!!! 28
