V Jon Vaske AWARDS The 1979-80 B Team finished with a record of 4-10. It was a somewhat of an up and down season from the beginning to the end. We started out strong, faltered in the middle, and played very good basketball near the end of the season. All of the players improved to dif- ferent levels by the end of the season. Brad Lynn was named Most Valuable and Dan Stein Most Improved by their team- mates at the conclusion of the season. All in all, it was good learning experience and we are looking for big things from these young men in the future. Back Row From Left: Asst. Coach Darrel Woolery and Head Coach Steve Brown. Despite a slump in the middle part of the season, the Elks finished strong and ended up 13-9 with a 3rd place finish in the Region 3 Tournament. The Elks successfully defended their District 10 Championship when they beat the Deubrook Dolphins 71-59 in the title game. Other accomplishments of the 1979-80 season were: 2nd place in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 3rd in the EDC Tournev. Four seniors led the charge for the EIks. Curt Krogman, the teams' MVP. led the team in scoring and rebounding. Curt also was selected to the EDC All-Conference and All- Tourney Teams. Ervin Gebhart, who led the team in assists, was also a member of both the EDC All-Conference and All-Tourney Teams. Chuck Lorden and Everett Gebhart ranked high in all stat- istics, with Everett being named to the All-Conference Team. Tnese four, plus seniors Dave Theede, Craig Cameron, Larry Lorenzen, and Brad Heesch all will be missed. Yet, there are plenty of good, young basketball players getting ready to take over. So we are looking forward to even better years in the fu- ture. To the left: Everett Gebhart dribbles in for a lay-up in the title game of the District 10 Tourney.
