CLASS HISTORY CHAPTER I In 1951 twenty freshmen, ten boys and ten girls, entered Elkton High. Some weeks elapsed before this heterogeneous conglomeration of much wisdom discovered itself to be a class in high school, but when it did, it rose to the occasion beautifully. The class officers were Jon Boelens, president; Bill Seivert, vice-president; and Janice Mundahl, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Hogie, superintendent, was chosen as class adviser. Joe Higgins and Janice Mundahl were king and queen candidates for the class. CHAPTER II When The Class assembled in the autumn of 1952, a considerable expansion seemed to have taken place within the cavities which held its members hats up. We lost Joe Higgins and Curtis Marshall. Joyce Baker was chosen president, Janice Mundahl, vice- president, and Carole Burlage was secretary-treasurer. William Quincey was our class adviser. Bill Seivert and Carole Burlage were the king and queen candidates. CHAPTER III In its third year, The Class began to feel the responsibilities of age. Nineteen came back for the last half of our high school days together. We were under the supervision of a new superintendent, Mr. Ekberg, coming from Gayville. Mr. Hogie joined the faculty at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Janice Kontz came to join us from Dell Rapids. We voted for Janice Kontz as president, Janice Mundahl, vice-president, and Joan Even, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Ervin Kurtz was our class adviser. In December, we presented a play, “Deadly Earnest. Mr. William Quincey was the director. The king and queen candidates were James Wiskur and Joyce Baker. In May, 1954, we entertained the seniors at a banquet. Our theme was “South of the Border. CHAPTER IV Seniors.' Then the fall of 1954 The Class put all youthful folly behind them and set about the prep- aration of the supreme accomplishment of its high school career, the book before you. Nineteen re- turned for the last lap. Nora Hurney was president; Carole Burlage, vice-president; and Joyce Baker, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Quincey is the class adviser. In October, we held our Homecoming festivities. We lost the Homecoming football game to Rutland by one point. Jon Boelens and Joyce Baker, seniors, were crowned Lord and Lady. Shirley Belson, a transfer from Kennewick, Washington, joined The Class the second semester. 9
