1 DEDICATION We, the Senior Class of 1955, dedicate the ELK to the alumni who have passed through the portals of EHS. The halls have echoed their footsteps and heard their laughter. As a tribute to their achievements and contri- butions to EHS we dedicate this book. THE VOICE OF MEMORY Sometimes between the dusk and night When evening shadows fall, I seem to hear a far-off sound, A tender, beckoning call. Soft as the song of the nightingale, Sad as the lone bird's call, Is the sound of that voice as it calls to me, And on my spirit falls. And as I list, tears fill mine eyes, And a breathless silence reigns, While the voice of memory is calling me, Calling me back again. 2 ADMINISTRATION H. V. Some weeks elapsed before this heterogeneous conglomeration of much wisdom discovered itself to be a class in high school, but when it did, it rose to the occasion beautifully. The class officers were Jon Boelens, president; Bill Seivert, vice-president; and Janice Mundahl, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Hogie, superintendent, was chosen as class adviser. Joe Higgins and Janice Mundahl were king and queen candidates for the class. CHAPTER II When The Class assembled in the autumn of 1952, a considerable expansion seemed to have taken place within the cavities which held its members hats up. We lost Joe Higgins and Curtis Marshall. Joyce Baker was chosen president, Janice Mundahl, vice- president, and Carole Burlage was secretary-treasurer. William Quincey was our class adviser. Bill Seivert and Carole Burlage were the king and queen candidates. CHAPTER III In its third year, The Class began to feel the responsibilities of age. Nineteen came back for the last half of our high school days together. We were under the supervision of a new superintendent, Mr. Ekberg, coming from Gayville. Mr. Hogie joined the faculty at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Janice Kontz came to join us from Dell Rapids. We voted for Janice Kontz as president, Janice Mundahl, vice-president, and Joan Even, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Ervin Kurtz was our class adviser. In December, we presented a play, “Deadly Earnest. Mr. William Quincey was the director. The king and queen candidates were James Wiskur and Joyce Baker. In May, 1954, we entertained the seniors at a banquet. Our theme was “South of the Border. CHAPTER IV Seniors.' Then the fall of 1954 The Class put all youthful folly behind them and set about the prep- aration of the supreme accomplishment of its high school career, the book before you. Nineteen re- turned for the last lap. Nora Hurney was president; Carole Burlage, vice-president; and Joyce Baker, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Quincey is the class adviser. In October, we held our Homecoming festivities. We lost the Homecoming football game to Rutland by one point. Jon Boelens and Joyce Baker, seniors, were crowned Lord and Lady. Shirley Belson, a transfer from Kennewick, Washington, joined The Class the second semester. 9 MINUTE BIOGRAPHIES OF SENIORS NAME ALWAYS SUGGESTS Irene Anderson Dreaming Modesty Joyce Baker Jolly Ice Cream Cone Jon Boelens Spitting Wild West Curtis Bruening Cutting up Ladies Man Carole Burlage Fussing about Som ething Hula Hula Maid Gerald Clark Grumbling Telephone Pole Virginia Ellis Curious Vocalist Joan Even With Lee Twins Mary Heesch Working Hard Puritan Maid Nora Hurney Smiling at The Boys Snake Charmer Rozella Karstens Laughing Big Joke Janice Kontz Sweet Innocence Janice Mundahl Working Hard Beautiful Doll Lee Pratt With Joan Twins Don Schmidt Looks Pleasant No One in Particular Bill Seivert Tidy Dime Novel Gordon Smith Agreeable Business Man Darlene Wiskur Giggling Silence James Wiskur At Staff Meetings Spirit of 1776 CAN'T WOULD BE WILL BE Leave Darlene Book Agent Hawaiian Queen Sit Still Funny Suffrage Orator Preach a Sermon Comedian Wildman in Circus Talk Fast Mayor of Elkton Undoubtedly Be Silly Movie Star City Belle Run Fast School Detective Auctioneer Get Fat Fortune Teller Lawyer Leave Lee Stick Without Lee Together Idle Time Away Everywhere Authoress Chase Rabbits Beautiful Conundrum Stop Talking Stenog« Artist Stop Whispering Quiet Farmeress Scowl In Society Popular Leave Joan Stick Without Joan Together Make Eyes Somebody's Friend Everybody’s Be Alone Great Dancer Traveling Salesman Flirt Happy Perhaps Study Actress Housewife Wink Fancy Dancer Hotel Proprietor CLASSES HOME EC II Left to Right-R.
