2 Elko High School Presents. . . Pohob Yearbook For The Year 1971-1972 ■wrmbmmmimmmmmmmmtmM In the Time of Your Life. . . Live- .. so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness every- where, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding-place and let it be free and unashamed. Discover in all things that which shines and is beyond corruption. Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart. guilt is not yours, nor is any man's innocence a thing apart In the time of your life, live—so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it. —William Saroyan 5 No one knows better than I the extremely elusive quality of time, yet, it seems that this fact never becomes acceptable. Each of us finds it, at one time or another, hard to make arrangements with oneself, and that is the reason yearbooks are created—especially this POHOB. I sincerely hope this annual will not only be special to you now as a tool of remembrance, but also more so in the coming years. It is not possible to thank everyone who contributed here as there are so many of you. Mr. Smith, Julie, Linda and Anne—the words come so hard, so I will let this annual say for me the thanks you so deserve. Yet, now we find that we have misunder- stood time's abstract quality. As we recall the past and anticipate the future, we shall bear in mind various people involved in these years of our lives: parents who were often teachers; teachars who were often parents; friends who were often both; and all who played a part in our lives, regard- less of their roles. We, as Sophomores, have had more time to reflect upon our beginnings as High School students—our accomplishments,, our frustrations, our hopes, most of all, our mistakes—and realizing these so that they may be usefully applied in our remaining years. The Sophomore year was a time of dis- covering not only what directions we were going to follow as far as spirit, growth and interests were concerned, but it was also when we realized that it is not so important what other people think of each of us as it is what we think of ourselves and what we do with ourselves. 72 Laura Abalos Teresa Aguirre Lorene Aldaya Terri Allen Gillian Alvarez Jolaine Anderson Kim Bain Edward Barkdull Beb Baugh Gail Baumgardner Aaron Beck Richard Bell Mike Bilboa Del Bieroth Donna Black Tracy Black David Bogue Denise Borden Julie Brummell Matt Burner Julie Butler Todd Carrillo David Castle Cindy Chapman Ward Chilton Debbie Cobley Steve Colyer Harley Confer Richard Cothrun Leslie Crapo 73 Vickie Etchinek Diane Evans Sharon Frost Paul Gallegos Laura Gardner Carla George Justin Gilliam Bill Giudici Meg Glaser Christina Glennon Shuana Goicoa Karen Goitia Wilma Gonzales Brian Green Greg Greenhaw Lynn Gregory Lois Gurr Tichy Guzman Doug Harper Denise Harrington Malen Harrison Mitch Heguy Sharia Hennigan Gretchen Holbert Yolanda Holmstead Scott Hooper Robert Hornbarger Mary Hoskins Athena Hunt Tanya Hunt 74 Terry Jayo Stana La Rocque Teresa Lee Lori Lester David Loncar Dale Love Maureen McClure Michele Marfisi Chris Mariluch Greg Martin Danny Martinez Candido Mendive Jo Ed Merrick Nona Moiola Ken Moore Sam Mori Kathy Murphy Mary Ann Musolf Howard Nelson James Patterson Cindy Paul Howard Pearce John Peart Sandra Peco Craig Perry Gary Peterson Ellen Plumb Terri Pohlabel Clarice Prather Pat Probert Earl Prunty 75 Maria Rodriquez Jo Ellen Rogers Angela Rush Art Sauder Tina Salicchi Lyle Sam Jeannie Samper Cindy Secrist Carolyn Sena Carolyn Schessler Jack Skivington John Smales Annette Smith Linda Smith Rex Steninger Remy Stenovich Ann Stepp Terri Stevens Janice Sustacha David Sweetwood Joe Tewell Patty Thome Sally Tooley Carolyn Treviso Mark Turner Karen Urriola Bernardo Urrizaga Sheldon Walther Yvonne Welch Debra White 76 «VA'i.. ijlw.'; ft J- 7' ’ FRESHMEN Once we took those inevitable steps as Freshmen, there was no turn- ing back—nor would we want to. No matter how confusing and dif- ficult our Freshman year was, it was worthwhile. One person who should receive special recognition here is our Class Sponsor, Mr. Johnson. He was our first contact with high school life and helped us make our first moves toward spirit, learning and fun. These are the qualities we hope we will never lose and should bring everything good to us in our remaining years. Telling them that God's in his heaven And all's well with the world is wrong. The young know what you mean. The young are people. Tell them the difficulties can't be counted, And let them see not only what will be, But, see with clarity these present times. Say obstacles exist they must encounter. Sorrow happens, hardship happens. ___Who never knew The price of happiness will not be happy. Forgive no error you recognize, It will repeat itself, increase. And afterward our pupils.
