Throughout each year of high school, every one of us learns so very much. Think how different high school would be if a Freshman knew as much as a Senior. But then, high school would not be high school. High school is a place to learn and experience new things - favorable and adverse. As we look back on this past year, perhaps the 1971 Pohob will bring back fond memories, good times , and close friends. Maybe then, we shall realize that EHS did influence us in many ways - what we should or should not reach out for in life. This yearbook was possible only through the help of Sue, my business manager, and Colleen, my assistant. A special thank you to Mr. Smith for being so patient. To these people I express my deepest gratitude. Leslie Garcia Editor XdL 10 Homecoming Festivities The faculty adds to Homecoming enthusiasm. Clash Day. Elko plays good defense and offense. The two groups also marched in Fallon's Homecoming parade. Frank Gallagher and Annette Carson. Cindy Crouch was Elko High's representative to the Junior Miss pageant held in Reno, Nevada. She was one of the ten finalists in this contest. EHS is proud of C indy. I breathe a prayer of gratitude for life, For all that I have learned and comprehend, And blest indeed am I if I have earned The kind regard of an enduring friend. The 1971 Pohob is available only through the unceasing devotion of numerous people. These peo- ple dedicated many hours to the hard work necessary to bring about a book which would remind Elko High School students of all that they have learned and comprehend. The Pohob is, essentially, a book of memories. These memories, of things learned and people met, are happy ones, we hope; and they are recorded and recalled in the 1971 Pohob. Many thanks to Leslie Garcia, the editor; Mr. Smith, the patient sponsor; my assistant, Julie Brown; and all of our many generous advertisers. Best Wishes! Sue Kuehn, Business Manager 159 MR. Mighty Seniors of ’71 These past four years have flown by and the memories we have are exciting and vivid, es- pecially as our last year comes to an end. Many of us may remember high school as the best years of our lives. The year began with the annual Senior-Frosh dance, which successfully sent us on our way. Throughout the year we were involved in many activities and were well-represented intellectu- ally. A fitting close for our final year, the Junior-Senior Ball, was well worth the time and effort. Mr. Lake deserves our appreciation for maintaining much enthusiasm. Although many of us regret graduating from high school, we look forward to making plans for our own futures. Perhaps we will realize that the experience and knowledge gained at EHS has helped prepare us for the new life ahead. 20 Shelly Adair Dee Dee Anderson Arnaud Ardans Terri Atwood David Bain Larry Bain Tom Ballew Claudia Barnes Lynda Barnes Steve Baumgardner Mike Beebe Holly Bernadot Marc Brown Rozalyn Brown Steve Brown Steve Brush Edy Burdick Bruce Burns Janet Byers Annette Carson Fred Coburn Laura Coburn Chris Coggins Earl Colyer Claude Drake Jim Evans Landy Ford Bert Fox Annie Freeman Frank Gallagher Rick Gallegos Leslie Garcia Joanne Gardner Diane Giles Carmen Gonzales Kathy Gooch 23 Pam Herrera Randy Hess Karen Higley Tom Higley Paula Holman Ronald James Val Jauregui Roy Kaiser Connie Kellers Craig Kerth Sue Kuehn Dennis Libro Diane McKinnon Bill McKnight Denise McMahen Colleen Madigan Sylvia Maestas Dale Mauer Jerry Meadows Babette Meale Mike Merchant Cyd Moore Virginia Morfin Jane Morley Dennis Parker Greg Parker Russell Parker Charles Perry Andy Puccinelli Carolyn Rand Jody Read Annette Redant Becky Rice Wayne Richards Christie Ricks Tom Riggs Vincent Salaz Becky Sauder Sherri Schofield Dennis Sestanovich Kenny Sestanovich Joyce Sheen Scott Shirley Fred Skivington Pat Skripsky Julie Smith Linda Smith Vicki Smith 27 Angie Urrioia Jerry Vega Jan Waid Evelyn Walther Collett Warren Frank Weinrauch Cindy Welch Nick Wignall Don Williams Bill Woodward Bill Wright Juliann Wright 28 Upperclassmen “Caught” by the Camera What's so interesting on the other side of that door? From the beginning of our Junior year on, everything started to count. We had to seriously start making plans for our future. Looking back, we remember our many accomplishments and consider our third year of high school a very successful one. We should like to thank Mr. Brown for his patience and guid- ance.
