Who served as Pohob advisor from 1953 until 1969. She spent those sixteen years giving advice, encouragement, and when neces- sary, correction. Her enduring patience and tireless ef- forts during that time have made the past annuals of EHS books of lasting memories which we can all cherish. THANK YOU for your many years of hard work and dedication. From ALL of us ! My mind was a mirror: It saw what it saw, it knew what it knew. In youth my mind was just a mirror In a rapidly flying car, Which catches and loses bits of the landscape. Then in time Great scratches were made on the mirror, Letting the outside world come in. And letting my inner self look out. For this is the birth of the soul in sorrow, A birth with gains and losses. The mind sees the world as a thing apart, And the soul makes the world at one with itself. A mirror scratched reflects no image- And this is the scratch of wisdom. Student Council 9 With the passage of years, each of us at some time may look up- on this school year as the time when the shadow of ignorance sud- denly vanished with the glimmer of knowledge. To preserve a record of these moments and the countless other experiences of each one, the 1970 Pohob endeavors to capture the eyes and mind of the scholarship, leadership, activities and character of Elko High School. My deepest gratitude to all who have helped to make this annual a success, especially Sue and Rosanna, my Business Managers, and Leslie, my assistant. And a great big THANK YOU to Mrs. Amestoy and Mr. Smith, for without them we could have done nothing. Sincerely, 10 FACULTY Big Chief end the Tribe! LEFT to RIGHT: Pat Brennen-Vice-Pres. , Mr. Lake-Sponsor, Janet Wright-Secre- tary-Treasurer, Kenny Anderson-Boys' Representative, Terry Lynch-Girls' Representative. Throughout our seemingly short high school career, we have experienced four rewarding years. How- ever , only this last year were our true potentials expressed fully. Our last year at EHS began with our excellent Senior-Frosh dance. The Junior-Senior Ball, which took much time and effort, left everyone inspired at the end of the year. Our sincere thanks go to Mr. Lake who encouraged us to develop our abilities. Although our good-byes to EHS are sad, we anticipate the challenge awaiting us as we leave. We want to thank everyone who has helped us these past four years to prepare us for this new life ahead. 20 Kris Abalos Linda Aguirre Rosanna Aguirre Kenny Anderson Karen Biernacki David Bilbao Marjorie Blacks toe k Gary Bell Glynis Bi dwell Dennis Bohner Marla Boner Pete Bottari Dolores Bouge 21 Nick Bradley Debbie Braithwaite Miguel Bravo Pat Brennen Leha Buzzetti Lora Buzzetti Gayle Churchfield Laurie Cuthbertson Ralond Davis Mark Cripps Henry Cross man Donald Crull Toni Dominguez Jan Doxey Terry Eardley Micky Elsbury Billie Sue Evans Sue Evans Jay Gamble 22 Gail Glazier Gary Glazier John Gordon Susan Greenfelder Gerald Guldager Vicki Hall Charles Harmer Merlene Guldager Kenny Harriman Jill Hash Jackie Hastings Terry Herman Dennis Herr Steve Herrera Linda Hess Marvin Garcia Danna Gardner Janice Gilliam Susan Glaser 23 Ronnie Hess Cynthia Holling Jack Holmes Esther Holmstead . • Jack Hornbarger Gardenia Ike Vicki Jayo Arlene Joyal Judi Joyal Steve Kellers Layne Kenley Junior Knight Paul Jordan Sandy Lage Terri Lynch David Maestas Aileen Maher 24 Adrian Mariluch Susan Maw son Scott McDermott Nancy McFarlane Jody Moschetti Teena Moy Louis Neitz Walter Neitz Steve McKinley Michelle McMahen Kyle Me Mullin Bruce Merritt Russ McMullen Linda McVicker Eva Morfin Iva Morfin Ray Morse 25 Madelyn Read Debbie Reche Wayne Reisdorfer Marty Reyes Mike Riordan Barbara Rogers 26 David Tael our Nancy Testoline Dorothy Tewell Valorie Thomas Patty Salaz Linda Scott Ronnie Sena Ernie Smith LeRoy Sestanovich Jim Sills Carla Sol mo n Sandra Stearns Cheri Stenovich Blaine Sullivan Marleata Summer 27 Gary Tiller Debbie Traher Vickie Trappett Barbara Tullis Teresa Welch Gloria Wells Linda Vargas Mark Vietti Shirley Welch Maurice West Larry Wheat Janice Wolfley Steve Worline Eddy Wright Janet Wright 28 JUNIORS Juniors Anticipate Final Year at EHS FRONT: Patricia Lyon—Secretary, Steve Sutherland—President, David Cunningham—Vice-Pres. The members of our class would like to give their deepest gratitude to Mr. Brown for his assistance and patience. As we look back on our Junior year, we shall always remember our successful Junior Pay Dance and Junior-Senior Ball. We shall be thankful for hard-working officers and two great cheerleaders. Sophomores Await Upperclassmen Rank Under the guidance of our excellent sponsor, Mr. Swenseid, our second year of high school was quite successful. Since our class was the only one headed by a girl president, we were very proud of her and our other competent officers. We also feel our four J.V. cheerleaders represented us well. As we leave the rank of lowerclassmen, we look forward to our final years of high school as upper- classmen. 42 ROW1: K. Immenschuh, E. Morse, D. Baily, J. McCarty, D. Molof, L. Baily. ROW 2: P. BACK ROW: Doris Whitney—Treasurer, Patricia Paoletti—Secretary, Steve Skivington—Vice Pres. , Mr. Johnson—Sponsor. We entered EHS last September, awed and timid. Within a few weeks, however, we had almost com- pletely adjusted to this new life. At first it seemed we would never be as successful as the upperclassmen, but it wasn't long before the members of our class came forth with many ideas. Everyone in our class would like to thank Mr. Johnson, who helped and encouraged us throughout the year. Our class has finished a very rewarding year, being well-represented on the honor roll and in many activities. We are eagerly awaiting three more outstanding years at EHS. ROW 1: A. Rush, T. Gazing with admiration On the work of human hands. Where once was nothing but sage, Cut here and there by a trail, The freeways form paths for the stage And the trains pass by on the rail. O teamster, what must your thoughts be As silently there you stand. Are you happy with what you see Of what progress has done to your land? Or do you wish for the bygone day When progress was the mill by a stream, And you sweat and swore and earned your pay At the reins of a ten-horse team. There must be times when you are sure That the old ways had to be best. But time has proved that we cannot endure If we are content to just sit back and rest. Man has conquered the plain and the hill through hard work—morn, night and noon. And with that same spirit and will He has now set his sights on the moon.—jt 99 Indian War Dance' Seniors take 1st place honors in car competition. Class of '72. Governors Youth Traffic Safety Conference 162 Sue Evans and Rosanna Aguirre, Business Managers The Class of 1970 will soon be leaving Elko High School and stepping into a new life. There will be many memories of friends and good times that these students will want to hold forever. Our Pohob will recall some of these moments. This publication is the result of the work of many, but without the devotion of Dorothy Tewell all the effort could not have been so well put to use. Sometimes a 'thank you' is simply not enough, and so is the case with Mr. Smith. Our Pohob would not be possible without his constant help. Each of our advertisers, also, deserves a sincere thank you. Their support is deeply appreci- ated. Many thanks to our assistant, Sue Kuehn, and the rest of the Business Staff. Our only wish now is that you will thoroughly enjoy our efforts. Thank you, Sue Evans Rosanna Aguirre Business Managers 163 176
