A MEMORY TREASURE POHOB ELKO HIGH SCHOOL 1965-1966 AS WE BEGIN, A ROUGH STONE Each student entered these halls with a different goal or purpose in mind. Now it is time to pass through them one final time. For some this may seem a joy, for some a priv- ilege, for others a sad journey from the memories and ex- periences held within these walls. Whether your goal has been attained or not has depended on you. The future also depends on you and your ability to use what knowledge you've gained here. Whatever the future may hold, it is our hope that is will be the fulfillment of your fondest dreams. A part of your high school experience will remain with you always, and we hope that this 1966 POHOB will be a Memory Treasure which you will cherish. .. This book represents, in n-o small measure, the fruition of the best of all endeavors--that which demands effort of everyone for the common goal. People working together for a fine and demanding objective are making their greatest contribution while exposing the excellence that is in them. Let me also salute the seniors who have been a part of the school life which is represented in these pages. I wish you well in that which you elect to do and express the hope that something of what you have gained in the four years past will support you in the critical decisions you will be making. We are very proud of Rick Van Zee, student body vice-president; our Varsity cheerleaders, Sally Wilson and Marva Kump; assistant editor of the Pohob, Cydnee McMullen; and assistant business manager, Valerie Fox. Our Junior Prom will long be remembered as the best yet. Although it required great patience and hard work, it was well worth it. We would like to say thank-you to our wonderful class sponsor, Mr. Polking- home, for his help in making this such a great year for us. We have always been active in athletics, scholastic work, organizations, and music. Yes, we as Sophomores believe that 1965-66 has been a very good year. At its beginning, we elected very competent officers: Tom Walther, President; Van Harriman, Vice-President; Linda Urriola, Secretary-Treasurer; and Bobby Bostic and Linda Lou Oldham, Representa- tives to the Student Council. For the second year, we placed second in the magazine drive. We showed excel- lent school spirit by attending dances and games. Our Sophomore Hop was a tremen- dous success. Michele Arregui and Myra Stenovich were Junior Varsity cheerleaders. The Sophomore class was well represented in the sports and music departments, as well as many other activities. We hope our future years at E. H.S. may be as successful as this one. 44 Hmm, mountain dew. I'm coming, Mr. Jensen! CLASS OF 1969 PRESIDENT......... VICE-PRESIDENT . . . SECRETARY......... FRESHMAN STORY The Class of '69, under the capable sponsorship of Mr. Everett Weighter, opened its first year in Elko High School by taking first prize with its homecoming float. We came out smelling like roses . Freshman leadership was given by President Richard Toothman and his corps of officers--Vice-President Tyler Sciotto, Secretary Pam White, Treasurer Dianne Cunningham, and Class Representatives Cheryl Chilton and Scott Probert. Also coming from our ranks were two Junior Varsity cheerleaders, Sherry Jones and Jacque Hacquet who was elected to head the group. All one hundred ninety-four of us are eagerly awaiting three more terrific years as citizens of the Elko High School student body. 50 hV , A O’ oVv; mrZH ot° C .rC Lx. The Pep Committee (pictured above) directed the functions of the organi- zation under the leadership of Miss Robynne McClure, President and Miss Smith, faculty sponsor. The activities included posters for games, special cheers, and skits for pep assemblies. This group serves a very worthwhile purpose in boosting student and team spirit. I didn't mean to break it, Eddie! 151 152 Gruesome Twosomes 153 Gone, glimmering through the dreams of things that were. --Lord Byron Gone are the days of our high school career. The glimmering dreams are also gone, yet all of the fond memories remain in the pages of this annual and others like it. Since our prime objective was the business aspect of producing this year- book we would like to extend our thanks to the Elko merchants who so graciously supported us. This publication is not the result of the efforts of a single individual. However, without the devotion of certain individuals its success would not have been possible. Our sincere thanks go to Miss Grise, our advisor, slave-driver, and true friend. Her advice and help were invaluable to us. We also appreciate the help that our assistant, Val Fox, was to us. Val has the determination and ability to be an outstanding Business Manager in 1967. Our Editor, Kathleen Johnson with the help of Cydnee McMullen is also to be com- mended for the morable Pohob she has compiled. We are proud to have had the oppor- tunity to work with her. Now that we have thanked the Chiefs” we would like to show our appreciation to the Indians (our business staff) responsible for all the footwork necessary for the compilation of the ad pages. It is our sincerest hope that each of you will receive as much enjoyment from reading this Pohob as we have had assemblying it for you. 155
