Idnhuh N the fall of the year of l9l6 a group composed of all the boys and men of the Elko County Hlvh School journeyed to a hill south east of the city and set to work constructing an emblem of their school for all who should pass to notice and heed The work was finished und r the able leadership of Professor Raymond Thomas anl the school had placed its emblem in the figure of a great Block E upon the hill where lt may be seen from far and wide A short time later when a group of high school and grammar school teachers of which he was a member were lmperiled by a storm ln the Ruby Mountains Professor Thomas in a heroic endeavor to save the other members of the party Gave up his life The s hool realized their loss and as no other monument to him and his achiev ments was more appropriate than the emblem which he had con structed the Block E. IS now dedicated to him who gave his all that another might live As an athletic emblem this E has been carried all over the state and well have the bearers demonstrated their determination that it shall never know disgrace. lt is the ambition of every boy in school to carry that symbol and to aid in bringing it honor. 5
