lgnhnh for good reason a student may be allowed to postpone takmg rt untll his Senlor year Thls however IS dlscouraged as much as posslble ln 1922 23 there were two sectlons of elghteen students each Mr Anderson follows hrs own outlme of Amerlcan Hlstory whlch he devlsed at Harvard Unrversrty last summer Beard s HIS tory of the United States IS used as a text but IS not closely followed slnce Mr Anderson wlshes to have the students get therr mformatlon from as WldC a variety of sources and from as many dlfferent pomts of vlew as posslble One of the prmclpal objects of thc course IS to teach the students to reason out present day problems by applymg the lessons learned from hlstory Problems m Amerlcan Democracy IS another one of the few courses whlch every student IS required to take ln order to be grad uated lts place rs ID the Semor year and only for especxally urgent reasons are any allowed to take lt before that tlme The subject matter of thls course IS very mterestlnv The greater part of the first semester IS taken up wxth a study of economlc prob lems connected wlth the productlon exchange and consumptlon of goods and the dlstrlbutlon of wealth such as the advantages and dlS advantages of large scale productlon corporatlons and thenr control monopolles and trusts raxlway regulatxon labor dlsputes and many others The remamder of the semester and the first part of the second IS devoted to the studv of varlous soclal problems such as poverty crlme the race questlon lmmlgratlon and the like The remalnd r of the second semester 19 occupied by a study of the Natlonal State and local governments ln the country Usually all students are requlred to take the full year s work ln Problems ln Amerlcan Democracy but where good reasons exnst some may be permitted to substltute Commerclal Law th first semester The Commercial Law Class thls year was taught by Mr E Martle The text was Cano s Commerclal Law Thls subject takes up contracts notes partnershlps and every day pOllClCS ln bushes questlons CIVIC Patrlotlsm IS taught nn our school one hour a week ln con formlty with the State law The entlre school IS dlvlded mto four classes The Semors are taught by Mr Martxe wlth the RCVICW of RCVICWS as a text MISS Cralg has charge of the umors who prefer the Independent for thenr source of mformatlon The Sophomores taught by Miss McRae also use the lnclependent for reference The Freshmen dlrected by lVl1ss Knemeyer study the world s happenmgs as they are chromcled rn Current Events I4 1 . , , .
