Sitting: MISS DIGMAN English MISS CTCONNOR American History MR. GIBSON Citizenship and Latin MISS BAKER Librarian MR. BRUFFEY Civics and Economics MISS VCILSON English MISS RIDER English MISS VJILMOTH Assistant Principal: Latin MISS BARRY History MR. POXYERS Citizenship Standing: MISS NICOLS English EIB English SOCIAL SCIENCE Here are two of the most ditlicult and yet the most practical suhjects studied in high school. For history we have had Miss O'Connor and Miss Barry, whose interpretation of the past has helped us to understand the present. When we were freshmen Mr. Gihson and Mr, Powers laid the foundation for the study of citizenship. During our senior year, we studied modern problems and situations in Mr. Bruffeyis civics and economics courses. We are graduating with a hroad knowledge of the founding of our nation and with an intelligent understanding of the present day citizenship. ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE The aim of our English teachers is to give us the kind of instruction that will henelit us hoth now and after we have finished school. We have learned to speak and to write in actual life situations. Along with these practical skills the cultural side of our English has not heen neglected. for Beowulf and Ivanhoe have had their share of attention. If we do not have, upon graduation. a hroad knowledge of the English language and an appreciation of the hest hooks, magazines. plays and movies, the fault cannot he laid at the door of our English teachers. In the language rooms in spite of wails ol' nen scio! and ne comprend pas, Miss Poling, Miss Vsfilmoth, Mrs. Speicher and Mr. Gihson have made us feel sure of our ahility to read at least the inscription on a medicine hottle and order a meal in a French restaurant.

Sitting: Left to right- MR. REGER Music MR. VUILMOTH Biology and Mathematics MISS FLING Mathematics MISS FUSS Home Economics MRS. SPEICHER Science MR. KELLY Geometry and Shop MR. GREEN Biology MR. VEST Chemistry, Physica, and Geometry MISS BELL Citizenship Typewriting and Stenography, MR. STEWART Mathematics and Bookkeeping Standing: Left to right MISS ASHBY Secretary to Principal MR . G LASSCOCK Typewriting SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS These are the departments of our high school that have tried to instill in our minds facts and figures. Figures concerning algebra, geometry, and bookkeeping were taught by Miss Fling, Mr. Stewart, and Mr. Wilmmith. Mr. Green, Mrs. Speicher, and Mr. Vest introduced to us many facts about lungs, acids, and solutions. We can all honestly say that many of our happiest and most exciting hours were spent in the laboratory where new phenomena were unraveled before our very eyes. COMMERCIAL SUBJ ECTS The typing room is invariably an uproar of staccato sounds, while, in comparison, the shorthand room is always a room filled with softly enunciated words being stumbled over by someone trying to do Gregg justice. The bookkeeping classes are rather formal with an undercurrent of excitment as students learn the fascination of debt and credit. These courses have been recognized as three of the most essential and usable subjects in every day life. PRACTICAL ARTS And practical they are, too. Miss Fuss and Mr. Kelly have had four years to turn out some line cooks and carpenters who we know can apply their knowledge to earn a livelihood. When those tempting odors reach the classrooms through a well arranged system of ventilators, we know the cooking class is turning out another masterpiece in culinary art, and when we see the boys carrying home a table, stand or pedestal we know that someones home is going to reap the benefits of a pleasant week in shop It is a laudable ambition for any boy or girl to want to learn these two arts along with other high school subjects.
