HAMILTON BOARD OF EDUCATION AND COUNTY SCHOOL OFFICIALS I Two years ago when the County Unit Plan went into elfect in West Virginia, there was the usual uncertainty about a new system of which people really knew very little. Many conjectures were made ahout who would he appointed on the Board of Education. In the time that has elapsed since these appointments were made these uncertainties have heen entirely removed from the minds of the people of Randolph County. These men who were appointed have given the hest of their time and their efforts to improve elementary and secondary education. Every school prohlem has heen to them a personal prohlem. We regret to say that the terms of Mr. Vanscoy and Mr. Barrickman have expired. We are sorry to lose them and we appreciate very much all they have done for us. Working with the members of the hoard and carrying out their plans to their hest ahility are our three other county officials. Mr. Bryan Hamilton, superintendent of the county schools, is a wide awake and progressive school man. For Mr. K. S. McKee, director of high schools, there is only one goal-to make Randolph Countyis high schools the hest in the state. Mr. Henry Hamilton, director of elementary education, is no less zealous in his efforts to gain recognition for the schools of our town and county. We feel that we are indeed fortunate in having such men at the head of our school.

Sitting: MISS DIGMAN English MISS CTCONNOR American History MR. GIBSON Citizenship and Latin MISS BAKER Librarian MR. BRUFFEY Civics and Economics MISS VCILSON English MISS RIDER English MISS VJILMOTH Assistant Principal: Latin MISS BARRY History MR. POXYERS Citizenship Standing: MISS NICOLS English EIB English SOCIAL SCIENCE Here are two of the most ditlicult and yet the most practical suhjects studied in high school. For history we have had Miss O'Connor and Miss Barry, whose interpretation of the past has helped us to understand the present. When we were freshmen Mr. Gihson and Mr, Powers laid the foundation for the study of citizenship. During our senior year, we studied modern problems and situations in Mr. Bruffeyis civics and economics courses. We are graduating with a hroad knowledge of the founding of our nation and with an intelligent understanding of the present day citizenship. ENGLISH AND LANGUAGE The aim of our English teachers is to give us the kind of instruction that will henelit us hoth now and after we have finished school. We have learned to speak and to write in actual life situations. Along with these practical skills the cultural side of our English has not heen neglected. for Beowulf and Ivanhoe have had their share of attention. If we do not have, upon graduation. a hroad knowledge of the English language and an appreciation of the hest hooks, magazines. plays and movies, the fault cannot he laid at the door of our English teachers. In the language rooms in spite of wails ol' nen scio! and ne comprend pas, Miss Poling, Miss Vsfilmoth, Mrs. Speicher and Mr. Gihson have made us feel sure of our ahility to read at least the inscription on a medicine hottle and order a meal in a French restaurant.
